Bionic Data Usage

I am eligible to switch my personal plan to a corporate plan (with a 22% discount) but by doing so, Verizon is telling me that my current unlimited data plans would be converted to a 2GB tiered plan on all my phones.

I am thinking of upgrading my current phone (Blackberry Storm 2) to a Bionic but am concerned about losing my unlimited data plan.

How has data usage been for you guys with Bionics? Is it going over 2GB per month? (My current usage has not been near 2GB per month for the past several months, but I am concerned about the Bionic's use in my 4G area.) Would it be a bad idea to lose my unlimited plan?

Thanks.
Steve

That's because Blackberrys use compressed data.

I would never risk losing unlimited data.. you're better off buying the phone off Ebay or something and just ESN swapping to it. You should keep your unlimited data.

I am conservatively using about 600mb per day. Streaming netflix for 45 minutes with all services running as they do out of box had consumed about 25% of my 2GB data plan (this is rough math here). Love the phone, but Verizon is mining cash with this one.

Can you just get a discount? I get a discount for being employed by my employer on my personal plan, but it's not technically a corporate plan, they just verify my employment. I still have my unlimited data with that.

I can't get the discount without converting to the corporate plan. I own the business and now have enough phones to get a corporate plan with the discount.

However, to convert to the corporate plan, according to Verizon, I have to switch to the tiered plan and lose unlimited.

I would not do it either. 4G blows through data. I stream sportstalk and XM/Sirius everyday at work and I like to use youtube and netflix have blown through over 1GB since Friday. Also with the unlimited data, you get the unlimited hotspot for $30 if you are into that. At the very least I would try the bionic first and see what kind of usage you have before giving up unlimited. For me a discount would not be worth the stress of always worrying about a cap. I don't think I could enjoy this phone if I had to worry about that.

I can get the same discount but my bill would go up bc i am still on a alltel plan and have unlimited this is why i didn't change it over. Verizon plans are way to expensive and way over priced.

I had to buy the phone out right, inorder to keep my current plan aswell. I blown thru 2gb since saturday. mostly downloading apps and setting up my phone how I want it. but I did do some Pandora and TuneIn Radio for a few hours combined. I would recommend talking to VZW customer service and ask to speak to a supervisor. They are usually the ones that can approve the plan. its worth a shot especially if ur dishing out an arm n leg monthly to pay them.

Just a thought......leave your personal phone on a personal plan, put all other phones on the corporate plan (assuming you'd still have enought that way) then could you get the "corp discount" on your personal plan for being "employed" by the place you work for/own? Might be worth looking into to not lose unlimited on your personal phone, assuming the rest of the phones on the corp account wouldn't be a big deal to be subject to tiered data anyway.....not sure of all the situation particulars obviously. But like I said, might be worth consideration......

8 days in and 1.27GB used. Looks like im on the low side of people posting here, but probably high due to setup and just playing with the phone in general.

im at almost 1GB, had the phone since the 8th. This is also taking into account that I have my phone on wi-fi half the time too. If i didnt have an unlimited data plan I dont think I would have even thought about getting a 4G phone, because I know i would be paying out my ears for going over 2GB's.

stick with the unlimited. 2gb on 3g would probably work out but with the speed increase in 4g, data usage will definitely spike.

Is the website telling you this when you try to upgrade or is a person? If you go into a store you should be able to get grandfathered in...compressed data or not.

I wouldn't do it, don't let Verizon get your money like that. They're just trying to rip you off by not letting you grandfather your plan. I'd stick with the personal plan and keep unlimited, don't let Verizon win in their endless struggle to squeeze every damn piece of money you get every month and force you pay for crap you don't need or want.
