Bionic First Impressions/Reviews

I love everything about the phone so far but it's going back if I can't figure out what's going on with my battery. I can't go even half a day with the phone even without using it other than clearing out notifications.

Have you looked at Settings...battery etc...battery use to see what's eating up all your juice?

Try removing the social media widget if you still have that on the home screens.

Yeah I've been checking there and downloaded a few apps to help monitor it. I've been posting my results in the battery thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-bionic/117004-official-battery-life-thread-6.html#post1250055

You bring up an interesting point though. I use a different launcher than the stock launcer, which doesn't have any of the blur widgets on it. However, I wonder if the stock launcher still uses battery power if it's not in use? I'll launch the stock launcher, remove all of the widgets from the home screens and see if it makes a difference.

LTE, get the extta battery and charging dock! I just need a solid 16. I will let you know how this bionic does.

Last night after seeing the Radioshack deal, I just said screw it, I'm buying no matter what. I called Costco, what a surprise they didn't have it. But I had seen the Radioshack ad last night, so I called them, they had it. Went down there, got the phone for $200 (tax was $60...ouch) and an otterbox case (not a defender, but an otterbox case). So far I'm still setting up the phone the way I want it, but I'm so amazingly happy about it. The screen is bright and I don't notice the pentile at all unless I really look for it. I've watched youtube videos, played a game of Dragon, Fly! and didn't notice a thing. I'm still trying to figure stuff out, since this is my first Android phone, but I got the basics down so far. But if anyone wanted this phone, would I recommend it? Hell yes I would.
My first impression coming from a dinky little basic phone was "HOLY CRAP THIS THING IS HUGE." But when I started using it...I've now decided I like that...a lot. Whenever I pick up my old phone I feel like it's a child's toy. Now, I have pretty small hands for a person my size, so this thing is even bigger in my hands than maybe some of you guys, but I still love it.
I don't think I've had really any problems with it at all so far, been using it since about 3PM now, so about 5 hours, and enjoying every minute of it.

Congratulations! Glad to hear you have finally joined the Bionic club!:)

Picked up my bionic as well, solid feel and looks good. The pentile screen is not so bad, the gallery on the other hand is annoying. No camera button, not so bad, but coulda kept it. Oh and the biggest gripe, the iphone, samsung app drawer.

Also on a side note for nothing does it want to transfer my apps and data from my droidx. that part sux. Anyone else encounter this.

As day #2 comes to a close with the DB I'm pretty pleased with it from the qHD screen to the 4G LTE speed. Aside from 4G LTE the phone itself is fast. I'm coming from a DX on GB what really shocked me about the DB was the battery life compared to the DX. I know the stock DB battery puts out more mAh then the DX battery does but nonetheless I expected much less so that's a plus on the DB side. I'm running with: ADW EX as the home launcher / widgets on all 5 screens brightness set to 20% with moderate usage mainly texting, emailing, a few voice calls 3-4mins each. With a full charge I'm getting 6-7hrs before the battery drops to 90% to me that's amazing. With the DX running the same parameters with a full charge again the usage that I just described the battery would drop to 90% in 45mins. Food for thought...!

Those are great battery results. /jealous.

After a full day of playing I'm going to give my First impression review. I'd like to preface it by saying that coming from the BB Tour a) Most things about this phone are just awesome to me, lol.. and b) since I'm an android newbie, I might criticize something not really knowing if its a normal android issue/moto issue/bionic only issue.. know what I mean? So its a pure review. Also because I didn't read any of this thread prior to my post I haven't been influenced much. Here we go:

Thank you!! I was having a hard time with the other comparisons because I, too, have a BB Tour. Most were comparing Bionic vs. Some Other Droid. That was really helpful. :-*

Social Networking - I HATE that I added my facebook and twitter accounts to the main interface at the start, because it just made my contacts list ridiculously bloated. I recommend against that. When I figured out what was going on I deleted those accounts from the My Accounts on the phone, and just downloaded the standalone Facebook and Twitter apps which work fine for me. If anyone knows how to easily remove all the imported stuff thats now stuck in my contact list, I would greatly appreciate a PM or something.

Contacts>Menu>Display Options>Only Contacts with phones.

That may limit some of the bloat in your contact list.

Love my droid bionic. I'm not having all the issues others are having. Love the camera, the screen resolution is awesome even outside!

I just got mine today and have to say it is a nice phone. Can't say I have really loved a phone since my Star-Tac, I know, but I loved that phone for some reason to the point Verizon wouldn't fix it anymore and made me upgrade LOL, anyway I digress.

I'm coming off the Droid X by necessity not choice, dropped it once too many times. My X was a good solid phone and the first phone I had that I could really do all I wanted to on the internet, because of the large screen and it's performance.

The Bionic is a good upgrade and like some of the reviews call it a Droid X3. It's more refined, faster, better battery life (so far) and despite the debate I think it has a very nice screen. Yes I compared it to the Charge in the store and yes the Charge's screen is more vivid but I found the Charge's screen almost too bright. It's crisper than my X and I find it very nice.

Speed is noticeably faster, I did side by side in the store with my X and had about a 15/20 second difference.

The build quality of the Bionic is equal to my X, I can't find anything to say it is better/worse.

Functionality is nice can't say it is all that much different than the X. I do like not having actual buttons on the bottom, they annoyed me.

The power button is awkward for some reason but not ruining my life.

So in conclusion I can still make calls, do wireless hot spot, send text messages, and surf the net but it's a little quicker now and looks a little different. If my X was still working I would be hard to justify the 300.00 price tag beside the fact it's the newer phone.

If you have a little extra coin laying around and want a new toy go for it.

Not so much of an easy way.... but if you log into your Gmail account from your browser, In each contact is a "notes" field that stores the tags of Twitter and Facebook. You have to delete the info stored in the notes.

Just completed my first sales trip with my Bionic. 650 miles through central and northern Wisconsin.
The phone handed off easily between 4G and 3G and back again. The problem is when you are on the Verizon extended network. I had NO data connection WHILE ON THE EXTENDED NETWORK. This meant NO e-mails. Once I got to a 3 or 4 G area the data connectivity came back. The other rep. I was traveling with has the Droid Charge and had NO ISSUES. The Charge had 100% connectivity the whole trip. Something to think about if spend time on the road.

I love the phone the only problem ive had so far is when I use my bionic as a modem using pda.net my battery continues to lose charge be it at a very slow rate but my orig droid would charge to a 100% and stay there

Menu>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Data Roami....

Wait a second. What the hell? The Data Roaming options aren't there!

This is what it should look like (and does look like on my Droid 1): How to Toggle Data Roaming on Your Android Mobile Device (Mobile))

But on the Bionic, Verizon must have removed this option:

Man that's annoying. Can't wait til some ROMs start popping up for this thing.

Did you call Verizon to find out what's going on with that?

I thought I saw it somewhere earlier. Phew.
