Bixby Reviews / Discussion

I have not figured out how to use Bixby without having to unlock my screen. Every time that I use it with the screen locked, I still have to manually unlock it by either swiping or tapping the home button twice. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I think it's a security feature. Maybe? LOL

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, as of now I think that's by design. I think they just assume that people with Locked screen would prefer to keep it that way and not give the chance to somebody to fool the Bixby Voice recognition and get access to your phone.

I'd prefer to have it unlock completely with my voice even when using any Lock screen option, but I can also see their point of view, so far that's what it is, I think that the only way it can change is by us, the end users, complain about it.

I swear I saw that if you have smart lock enabled you can use it on the lock screen with no limitations.

I really want to like it, and I've found a couple of things to be cool, but mostly I find it irritating and slow. I think it is super cool to say "Open camera and take a slow motion video". I find it really irritating to say "Send a message to Pedro" and all I get is a list of apps to open, or maybe a list of the one person in my contacts named Pedro.

Where I think it could shine for me is in launching rarely used apps. Being able to say "Open Rare Turtle Finder" could be nice. If I can get into the habit of using it.

Or maybe I just need more training, or I need to train the software more.

With smart lock configured, you still have to swipe screen. It comes there for me. It doesn't just go to home screen or whatever screen it needs to just because you have the smart lock on.

For folks like me who dont want to use the home page for bixby but still want the button for voice commands, in package disabler you can disable:

Bixby Global Action
Bixby Home
Bixby Vision
Voice Wake-up (This will disable using "Hi Bixby" to wake up the phone)

The button still works as normal when holding it but pushing it once wont activate Bixby home.

Just updated yesterday however it is missing voice? Is there a tutorial on different features? so far its a dud

Re: Bixby Reviews!

A lot better than expected, so far the commands are great, I love the easiness creating shortcuts, it works great with a location reminder that btw was very easy and fast to create, I'm already in level 5 with 20 minutes of teaching it my voice and most commands. You can turn the phone off, reboot reboot in safe mode, etc... in a summary most of the settings commands are available. If you try to use it as you use Google Assistant it doesn't make too much sense but give yourself time and go to the app and learn all the things you can do and your perspective may change, at least it did for me.

Finally I see the reason of the Bixby button as it comes natural to just press and hold and give a command. Reason I don't use Google assistant more is because I hate calling any AI to wake it up and then talk the command, even with the Home button long press for activate Assistant to me it was not as natural as the dedicated button, I most of the time just forget that I can do that, if you know what I mean.

See told ya it would be good. Bixby will only get better in time (it learns from you and gets regular updates).

It shows promise, but I do think they are going to force Samsung messages on us, they could have just set it up to use default messaging app.

I'll provide my feedback, but as of now Samsung has not given me a route to do that. They give us a question each time, how did I do, but no feedback forms to send in ideas, actual problems, such as mine, use the default messaging app, not just Samsung.

Bixby will only work with core Samsung apps as of now. However, if you go to settings and check apps with Bixby voice, you can see which 3rd party apps you can also use.

Got my Bixby set up this morning and been playing around a bit with it. I love the fact you can wake up the phone to access messages or whatever without pressing a button. I am going to mess around with it through out the day especially at work and see how things go.

Only thing I find annoying is Bixby's voice is really low and there doesn't seem to be a volume control for it.

There should be. Swipe left from the home screen to get to the Bixby menu and look at the icons at the top.

The way I hold my phone with my left hand, with left pinky supporting the bottom, causes bixby to miss what I say a lot of time. I'm not even covering the mic too, I have to move my pinky completely away for bixby to hear what I say. Super annoying.

Last night was fine now today doesn't work at all opens with hi Bixby but that is it.
