Bixby yes or no?

I wonder if the FE model has the same issues as the 20+ that I have. First I can't figure out how to turn the darn phone off and every time I try I'm prompted to set up Bixby. Joking but serious. Everyone is saying the took the button away but really they just moved it to the other side of the phone and took the power button away. At least when I had my S10+ I could map the button to something useful. Everyone seemed to hate Sense when I had my HTC but I really liked it. With Samsung and Bixby I really haven't found any use for it. The routines could be useful but I've seen so many questions about how to do this or that go unanswered when I can do those things with Tasker. It tries to be Tasker-like but I don't think they went far enough with the phone controls. As far as an assistant goes I'm finding it really difficult to beat Google Assistant, except in the home speaker department. The home speaker is only good for like two things and even then it struggles, ok three things maybe but still struggling.

Maybe it's all because I'm new to the Samsung-verse, maybe because I'm stuck in my ways, maybe because I've been brainwashed by the haters but I just haven't found it useful.

And can someone tell me how to turn off my phone? Serious but joking.

You can get the side button to act as a power button instead of Bixby on the S20+. I did it on mine. You just have to go to settings > Advanced Features > Side key.

Thanks for the info. I put it use as soon as I read your reply. In the mean time your reply reminded me that I haven't really gone through the settings on this device. I've done it on most others just see what there was to see and find the little tweaks that will make it mine. So far I've only gone looking for the things that bug me. LOL.

I just have no use for voice assistance at all. I don't even like to talk on the phone, much less talk to a phone. I don't use Google Assistant either.

Admittedly, I've used Google Assistant less now that I have an S10. However, I use voice to text more.

I have to agree with the talking on the phone part but I talk to my phone all the time. I ask it how to spell stuff a lot, questions about topics on the radio and POD casts, for directions or tell it to just start navigating to someplace... vs typing everything I prefer talking to it when it's possible. I don't think I talk to it more or less on this device vs any of my previous devices. Can Bixby be always listening like Google Assistant? I'll have to look that up, I know there's some comparison videos on YouTube, has to be.

Yes I know in the Bixby app you can go to settings and turn on Hi Bixby and you can also turn on continuous conversation so you can just keep talking to it and not have to pause to wait for it to start listening.

Google I think does this naturally, at least I don't pause when talk to it other then when I'm in a noisy environment to be sure it opens.

I just watched a video arbitrarily comparing Assistant to Bixby. It was interesting. Most of the time Assistant gave longer or more detailed answers to searches. It was odd because the times one would give more the other would give less but not once did they really give the same unless it was a simple quarry. The YouTuber also tried a few things that Google didn't respond to and Bixby did. Initially I believed it had to do with wording. For example, yesterday in a thread I advised a member to use Assist to search their contacts after testing the command myself. When I said, show me the contact for Firstname Lastname, it did a web search but when I said, show me the contact information for Firstname Lastname, it returned their contact card. The YouTuber said, return to home screen, and it was executed by Bixby but Assist. did a web search. So I tried several different combinations of phrases but wasn't able to get Assist to execute this command, but it can adjust screen brightness and open settings???

Personally I think it would be too much to try and use both. Keeping track of which one can do what and how to phrase it is more than I'm willing to learn right now and so far Assistant hasn't let me down.

Bixby is the name of a li'l cute french poodle, with pink ribbons on her ears wearing a cute sweater, fluffy tail in all.
Galaxy S20 is a new revised army tank with the most sophisticated weaponry!
NO, bixby does not belong here.

I got rid of Bixby because it was interfering with voice commands from my motorcycle headset and GPS.

It intercepted and couldn't do simple commands like "open Spotify" or "play 680News" on Tunein Radio or "play playlist tom1" etc. Since disabling it Google commands work well and have gotten smarter at knowing what I want to do. In no longer have to ask it to "play 680News in Tuneup Radio". I just ask it to "play 680News" and it figures it out.

These settings can be found in setting>general management Screenshot_20210112-100312_Settings.jpgScreenshot_20210112-100254_Settings.jpeg

I'm trying really hard to like it but with my S20 FE it seems to very frequently have accidental activations when I really never said "Hi Bixby".

I really wanted to try and make it work but frustrated.

How many of y'all use Bixby or disable it?

Bixby Routines are great one you set a couple up
