I'm trying to test what a black background would look like on my phone. How do I make the background black just to test what it would look like? I want to return to my current wallpaper easily if I don't like it.

Wallpaper Wizardrii will copy your current wallpaper, allow you to try different ones and end up with the original one if you can't find anything you like better. (Almost any picture file can be used as wallpaper.)

I used a "flat black wallpaper" found on Google images.

Just go to settings and wallpaper.

This is what it looks like on one of my homescreens.

It makes the icons stand out for my old tired eyes.

I put my thumb over the camera lens and snap a picture. That is literally what my background is on about every Android device I own. Quick and simple.

Not being feceious but the "No Wallpaper" is an app from the Google Store.

I'm pretty dumb. Please explain how you do this, step by step? Thanks, I appreciate your patience to help a dummy like me.

First go to Google Images and type in "flat black wallpaper".

Press on the first image and tick on "save image".

Now go to "Settings/Wallpaper. Click on one of the choices at the
Top where you want it ("Home Screen, Lock Screen or Home Screen and Lo
ck Screen)

Click on "From Gallery" and look under "Download" for the image you
downloaded from Google. Click on it and click on it a second time then click "Save".
It should be on where you picked.

Don't ever feel like a dummy as I am 75 years old and and I somehow manage
to muddle through all these gismos without crashing them completely. 😆
