Black Backgrounds

Why are the menu backgrounds in Lollipop all white. This is stupid. It is NOT REPEAT NOT a design choice by someone at Google. It is a limitation on freedom and creativity. I once thought I liked Google because it was NOT Microsoft.

It also uses more battery. (I'm still on 4.4.2 - I'm waiting for a bug-free update, and 5.0.2 isn't it yet.)

Only for AMOLED displays. And, why is the battery worse? KitKat didn't use a black theme either.
