black screen blotchy (bootup / wallpaper)

I actually went to Verizon today and returned the phone. It made no sense to keep something that isn't right when my old phone was perfectly fine.

BTW

I know the super amoled screen is super vivid, but from what I experienced with my razr, it does not seem as clear as my droid x does. It also seemed to have a green tint to it(not super obvious).

Basically, I want to wait until this technology is out of the "experimental" phases. For those of you who have the razr and can live with that issue, enjoy the phone! Its just not something I felt comfortable keeping for the price.
That's cool.
Personally I was just trying to keep my OGD alive until Q1 next year, but when my OGD started to act up something fierce, I had to take a plunge.
And frankly I don't regret it (yet).

If you had no choice, it is a great phone. I am just in a situation where my phone could hold out for for a lot longer. If you need a good case to keep your razr safe, I had the otter box case. It was the best case I have ever used. In a matter of fact, I got one for my droid x after I returned the razr. It has dust covers for all of the port and hard keys. It even comes with a screen protector.

What a bummer... kind of glad I didn't jump on the Razr on release day. I wanted to wait to see if the battery life issues were true, and now this? Ugh... maybe I should wait for the Nexus now. I don't know, but my OG Droid is on it's last legs. I'm not in a huge rush, it works okay, but I'd like to upgrade by the end of the year. Maybe I'll check out the Rezound and then Nexus.

Edit: Hmm now on the fence again after reading more threads about problems. Might just wait for the Nexus.

I only notice these blotches when docked and the screen is as dim as possible and possibly the boot up screen. I can't see these blotches when I'm using the phone though so I don't really care.

I hate to sound like I'm coming to the defense of moto or that I'm justifying a "defect" in a product, but this is not a moto issue. It's an amoled thing. There are other devices out there from various manufacturers with this as well. Galaxy notes have it and I wouldn't be surprised if the nexus does to.

Wow just noticed mine after 3 days, and I'm running a black wallpaper. :p

I see it now. And like some have said its only under certain circumstances....In a room with the lights out and my phone on:

And the screen off, I cant see it.

With the default background and the lock screen, I cant see it.

Looking at the black keys on the keyboard, cant see it.

The website it takes you to when you search for Google black, cant see it.

I CAN see it:

I saw it for the first time booting up my phone in a room with the lights out. .

When I changed the home page to Google Black. Not as much as I could when I boot my phone up, tho.

Is it a deal breaker for me, no, not yet anyway. Because I dont spend most of my time in a dark room with the lights out. In a dark room wit the lights out....I'm looking at TV or....doing other things...lol. To me its like Pentile....only in specific situations it can be seen. And its only noticeable to me in a room with the lights out.

And yes folks...so far its looking like an Amoled issue. So....this gets added to the list of the pros vs cons of the different screens...

Had this on my phone, took it to best buy and they saw it too. Exchanged it for another one and I had him check the screen before he got everything switched over and, same problem in the same area. I ended up holding on to my original phone. He recommended to wait until im almost at 30 days and then come in and see if the problem is fixed. He also suggested it might be a software problem, but i doubt that.

This. You absolutely CAN NOT see it unless your crawling into bed with the lights off (at least that level of darkness) with the dock mode on AND the screen dimmed.

I've done extensive testing on my screen and I'm proud to say that mine is completely 100% BLOTCH FREE

I think mine its too. I love this phone. I, fortunately, am not having any of the problems I see others mentioning. Screen is great, battery is great, not reboots...I'm thrilled!

I got my Droid Razr on Monday. When I get home I noticed the splotches also. I went back to the store and told the kid at the counter my issue. He took the phone and said he doesn't see it (he only looked at the phone for about 3-4 seconds). He got the manager who said he couldn't see it. This phone only showed the defect when all the lights were off and the screen was on a black background. The three of us then took a trip in the store to the employee bathroom, turned off the lights, and then I showed a dark wallpaper and the Motorola splash screen. The manager then said he could see it.

NOW, here's where it gets interesting. I asked the manager to exchange it and he refused. He wanted me to explain to him how this defect was stopping me from doing any normal function on the phone. I kindly reminded him that it wasn't a performance issue but rather the fact that I just paid $300 for the phone and I expect a perfect device. I could understand if there was a physical blemish done by me, but there wasn't any. I ended up having to call a Verizon Business Manager (My company is a large corporate customer), who ended up getting the Regional Manager to force the DOA replacement.

After all that I got a second phone and now I find that the defect is on this phone too. ONLY it's WORSE! I can see it when the screen is dimmed, on medium to dark colors (gray, black). I don't know if I should try another one or what... I don't really want to re-install the these freakin apps again... I just complaining I guess. I'm glad I'm not the only one...

An easy way to tell if u have blotchy screen is to record nothing. Go to a dark room or at night. And place ur finger on the camera and record a few seconds. And when u play it back u can see it. That is how i found out i have a messed up screen too.
