[Blind item] Next Nexus will be Motorola

Dare I say: Nexus X? Never thought i'd say this but, Go Motorola!

Or Nexus M...but I'm sure it'll go to T Mobile first, which is okay because as someone stated earlier with AT&T not having the exclusive rights to the iPhne AT&T will get more high end ANDROID phones...Ooohh yeeeah!..YAAAAAY! :D....sorry :o...just excited to have "options", my favorite word in the world(options)..Atrix, Infuse, LG Optimus Black(maybe), HTC Inspire 4G and more to follow..

yeah thats what I think too

You're not getting the concept I think. For the next Android developer phone, I must be able to:
  • connect it to my development computer
  • run two scripts
  • run "make"
  • then flash the fully open source build back to the phone
  • reboot to run it.
Either Verizon has to keep every Verizon specific app off the phone, or they will never get access to a developer phone. This includes apps that people didn't mind having, like the unified inbox. The Droid was not even close to meeting this criteria, but I think with the right amount of dollar signs in someone's eyes Verizon could let this happen.

The build that is flashed needs to work on any network the hardware is capable of. This means Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon and all CDMA regional carriers for a CDMA phone. This will never happen, because US carriers are too damn predatory. T-Mobile and AT&T have no choice, because SIM cards just work.

As for the blurb from engadget, they missed the mark. Carriers pay manufacturers to make phones they can fill with crap because they want extra money from the consumer. Android, being open source, makes this easy, and does a much better job than old BREW phones ever did. Apple added the Verizon Hotspot and location service to the iPhone. With Android, there's no need to have Google add anything, just hire a programmer to edit the source code and build whatever you want. Open Source doesn't = good or better, it only = open.

GSM networks aren't as open as they once were. Every time I switch back and forth on my BB and iPhone 3G I have to call in so they switch the data plan on the back end. Also, didn't ATT block the IMEI of certain Dell Streaks way back when?

That's to activate/deactivate BIS. Data and voice will work as soon as the phone finds an access point for non-BB devices.

And yes, AT&T blocked pre-release versions of the Streak that got sold on eBay. I think Dell was claiming that those were Dell property, and AT&T used that as an excuse to block them and try to sell more Streaks

I get my SIM and drop it into my iPhone 3G and have to call ATT to get data working again. Yes, I've reset the network on the device and "rebooted".
Voice works just fine switching SIM cards back and forth but they seem to have locked down the data services at least on BB's and iPhones which is a pain for me and takes away one of the features I loved about GSM networks (freely switching devices by switching SIM). They're also being a bit of a pain with the unlimited data plan claiming a supervisor needs to approve each time it gets switched around. I have essentially stopped using my BB and stuck to the iPhone so I don't subject myself to the song and dance.
There was also a time when it was much easier to activate/deactivate BIS by logging into a webpage and pushing the service books. Everything is getting more locked down

Im down to get this if google stops moto from locking the bootloader, cant stand that.

I would imagine that would be the first thing Google would stipulate to Moto if this is indeed accurate.

One other thing that people aren't taking into consideration here is that maybe Moto doesn't want the next Nexus. I mean Nexus (1 and S) sales haven't been all that good (most of which is cause how google chooses to sell them), and cannot compete with the Droid lineup on VZW (in terms of sales). Keep in mind that Moto has just recently made a come back from obscurity, and they need sales to keep this moving in the same direction. The Nexus M or X, whatever you wanna call it, wouldn't really get them a substantial amount of sales.

With all of that said, until we can use a Nexus on VZW (which will probably never happen), I won't buy one.

The Nexus One was only for sale in the USA for like a month or 2. Google decided not to restock once they sold out.

So you can't really say they aren't selling well just because Google chose to let the supply run out and never restock it.

Ummm really? Check your info, the online store for google (where the N1 was mostly be sold from) closed 07/21/2010, and it was available 01/05/2010. So if my math is right, that is over 6 months. Then after the website closed down, it was only being sold in retail stores (T-Mobile).

As of 30 seconds ago, it's still for sale through the Android Developer program :)

I don't think it ever sold in T-Mobile retail stores.

So it sold for 6 months on a somewhat hidden website. You can't say the sales #'s are bad or disappointing or whatever just because the Droid sold more (which was for sale for over a year in thousands of retail stores plus several huge retailer websites.

A possible name for it could be the Nexus 3D. Just thinking about that because of the tegra 3D chips. Its a thought.

Ok what about this rumor floating around a DroidX 2 I ask why? I see the bionic as the next x. So could it be the next X is really a nexusX? And MOTO has been rumored to be having a nexus even before the n1 was released. I mean VZW has capability to run a android world phone. And there's even a hack to run Droid pro on ATT and t-mobile. And MOTO can run a pure non blur OS look at the xoom.

Motorola Nexus Tab announced next week at Google's Honeycomb event

Same thing as the Xoom just unlocked booted loader and a SIM card slot.

Yes I can say that, cause it's true. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the N1 is a bad device, cause it clearly is not. All I am saying is that the N1 doesn't have the mainstream popularity as "Droid" branded devices, and there is no way you can argue with that.

Edit: I love how N1 users take everything so personally.

1: I am not a Nexus One owner. I have an Evo.

2: I never said it had the mainstream popularity of the Droid. I just said you can't say the sales numbers were bad just because it didn't sell as much as the Droid. They never inteded for it to sell as much as the Droid, and never attempted to sell as much as the Droid. It was never available in any retail stores, nor any big retail websites. It had no advertising, and it was only for sale on a semi hidden website for like 6 months. Even so, it sold out. They chose not to restock it.

So you can't say the sales numbers were bad when they sold every single unit that they attempted to sell. Had they tried to sell more, they might (and probably would) have sold more. They decided they didn't want to do that, so they didn't.

Motorala had the Droid witch was a VZW phone only and so the Xoom is the tablet rather than phone Google is using for a reference tablet extra
So that leaves use with HTC one more time or rather Sony Ecrison and LG
I really think that the next Nexus will be Nexus LG or maybe just Nexus L why because. I thin that the Sony PS phone is going tO be announced with some Google backing. Also LG has been making some interesting "firsts" like dualcore and 3D perhaps Google would like to have these features become standuad for Android phones to have so Google and or LG would team up to and make a dev/nexus phone so that developers will make apps for dualcore and 3D and also the next phones to fallow will be similar. I for one will like to have games in 3D like angry birds and frut ninja
