Blu with android auto

I purchased a 2017 Kia with the expectation of connecting my phone with android auto. I purchased a blu 5.0 downloaded app connected it to car - car says phone will not connect. What am I doing wrong? Seems quite simple but frustrating. Thanks for any help.

According to BLU Studio 5.0 - Full phone specifications you're Blu 5.0 phone is running Android 4.1, but according to this https://android.com/auto/ you need a phone running Android 5.0 or better (apparently the 5.0 in the name Blu 5.0 does not indicate the version of the Android OS). See if you can update your phone to Android Lollipop (5.0) or better. If not you'll need a new phone.
