Bluetoooth Problems with Audi

After having my Galaxy S5 for a couple of months and being 95% happy with it, I still cannot get navigation directions from the phone to come thru the audio system of my 2011 Audi A6. I had no problems doing this with my iPhone 4S (also using the Google Maps app).

I have read a number of threads on this forum where people have had Bluetooth issues but none were specific to the Audi's audio (MMI) system. I have paired and re-paired the Galaxy S5 with the car numerous times and have tried countless possible solutions & settings, but the navigation directions always (and only) come thru the phone's speaker. With the car's radio on, this becomes a problem. With my iPhone, the radio broadcast would cut out whenever directions were spoken.

Can anyone provide any help to solve this problem?

Can you play Music via the Audi A6 radio? If you do not have the option bought for your A6 to play multimedia, than you cant use Google Maps via the Bluetooth connection and your A6 speakers.

I can make/receive phone calls but cannot play music or hear navigation instructions thru the car's audio system. I have two cars paired with my phone and both are listed on the phone as paired with the phone. The car (Audi) having the problem is listed on the phone with an icon of a phone handset next to it and is described as "phone audio". I will call this a profile for lack of a better term.

The other car has two possible icons which I can choose from - one is the phone handset icon (i.e. phone audio profile) and the other icon is a set of headphones and that profile is listed as "device audio". Currently, the "device audio" icon is displayed next the the name of my 2nd car. The 2nd car works fine with the making/receiving calls, playing music and navigation.

I assume the "device audio" profile has something to do with this, but I cannot find anyway to create a "device audio" profile for the connection between my phone and the Audi.

Does this info help to further explain my problem and help fix the issue?

hm... seems to be a problem with the Audi Entertainment System. Is your A6 the new model? Or better to ask. Which is the model year of your A6? Do you know the correct name of your Multimedia System?

A friend of mine has a Audi from 2009 and he can also use only the phone via bluetooth. Audio Streaming is not included....

I don't believe my Google maps voice comes through my tacoma or my wife's Acura stereo either. Only the phone speaker. The usb connection isn't supported in either of our vehicles, only apple products. We can both listen to music via the Blu tooth however.

Peterzahn,
My Audi A6 is a 2011 with the Prestige package. The window sticker for the car lists the multimedia system as "Audi MMI Navigation Plus w/voice control". As I said in my initial posting of this thread, navigation instructions came thru the car's audio system without any problem when I had an iPhone 4S, so I know the capability is there (at least with iPhones).

While anything is possible, do you think Audi had more features supported for Apple phones than Android phones?

I don't know if your comments are good or not. In some ways, I guess they're good in that other vehicles seem to have the same problems as my Audi A6. The bad context is that, as I described in my posting above, everything (phone, music & nav) all worked thru the car's audio system with my iPhone 4s, so I know that the capability is there. I just do not know if Audi supports Android (or specifically the Galaxy S5) for the same level of functionality.

That might be it exactly. I was surprised to say the least about the galaxy not being supported. Always had an iphone so I never had any issues. Google maps voice worked through the stereo and the usb direct stereo interface was supported. Both for the acura and my tacoma.

I ended up checking the technology manual that came with my tacoma, and it confirmed my worries. Only apple products supported.

I believe in 2011, Audi's AMI only supported apple thru bluetooth streaming (music/maps/etc)

I would find it surprising that Audi doesn't support a phone that is as popular as the S5 also. But that may very well be the case. Hope that is not the case, though, and someone will offer a suggestion that works.

That may have been he case in 2011 but a few weeks back I did call Audi North America and the person I spoke with gave me the keystrokes needed to enable the Audi MMI system in the car to be updated by Audi. Once updated, I paired the my phone with the MMI system again but nothing changed. The person could not offer anymore help/ideas. Maybe I should try calling again and a more knowledgeable person might be able to help.
