Bluetooth car stereo Auto plays music when I get in the car with my phone

How do I stop my stereo from Auto playing music when I get in the car to go somewhere? I want to have the Bluetooth connection so I can answer or make calls if needed but I don't want it to automatically play music. Also when I stop the music my screen displays pause and won't just keep the clock there. It will briefly display the clock and then go right back to the word pause

What music player are you using?

Many - PowerAmp, for example - have an auto-resume setting which controls this behavior.

If I get out of the car while the music was playing via Bluetooth it starts back up whenever I get back in the car. I have to change the input on the car stereo to FM/CD/Anything other than Bluetooth before I turn the car off and it won't auto start on the next trip.

I think it's down to the car make. I am between a 2015 Renault Clio 4 and a 2016 Jaguar XE daily and both will only start plying music via Bluetooth when I switch to media in their infotainment systems. Otherwise they both stay on whatever radio station I am on when I start them.

My old 2011 VW Polo was the same.

I have a 2014 Dodge Grand caravan. The Bluetooth isn't stock - it's a pioneer with the removable face. I'll try the switch to radio etc before I get out of car next time to see if that helps.

Turning car off while music playing via Bluetooth will auto start it the next time. That's the case with Google music and my Honda Accord. As suggested above, if you change output source away from Bluetooth (fm radio for example) before you turn car off you should be good.
