Bluetooth draining battery/causing hot phone

Hello Everyone,

I just switched over to my first android phone the HTC One and so far loving all the options.

I have been checking out these boards and tweaking the settings on my phone based on some of the suggestions, which has helped quite a bit.

The only problem I have with this phone now is that when I turn on bluetooth (BT) in my car, the phone gets hot and I can really notice the battery being drained. Previously on my iphone as well as my Lumia 900, as well as my wife's GSIII we would have bluetooth on all day and there are no problems with the heat or with battery drain. If I leave my BT on this phone, my battery just seems to melt. Not sure why this doesn't happen with the GS3, Lumia 900 or iphone, but only this phone.

Odd thing is that GSam Batter Monitor states that bluetooth has used < 1% power, but I can visibly see my battery being drained just by having it on, even if I am not talking or using the bluetooth to audio feature. If I turn BT off the phone goes back to normal temp and does not drain the battery.

Could the battery getting hot be the cause for the battery drain? Is this normal with the HTC one or could I have received a defective bluetooth chip on my phone?

Any other suggestions I could try. Ideally I would like to leave my BT on all day as I have a 1 hr commute to work, but right now the battery won't cooperate with that.

Thank you for the help!

I've not heard of bluetooth causing problems like this. The One will heat up a bit due to its aluminium construction (think how a heat sink in a computer works) but that just means the internals should stay cooler. So long as the phone doesn't get literally too hot to hold it should be Ok. As for the battery drain I think watchdog is often suggested by the community here. It should tell you what's causing battery drain which is also causing the high heat. I doubt it's bluetooth being the culprit here and likely some app running like mad behind the scenes, maybe doing this once you turn on bt. Try watchdog and see what it tells you.

Thanks for tip. I just downloaded watchdog. Lets see if it finds something.
