Bluetooth keyboard typing wrong keys

just bought a new qwerty bluetooth keyboard for my samsung tab s. works fine except the bottom row of keys are outputting the wrong letters. e.g. press z you get \ press x you get z.
checked the language settings and its set to english UK like it should be.
its like every key has moved a space to the right.
