Bluetooth only updates when the screen is woken up

Not sure how many people use Bluetooth, but I have noticed and I will sit and watch it happen. My bluetooth items (reception, battery, etc.) will not update, unless I wake up the screen on my S5. Seems to take away part of the point of using bluetooth.

I saw this with my S4. I've had a couple of occasions where the BT connection on the S5 has been shut down (BT got turned off somehow), so I haven't been watching the reception updating as much as just watching to see if the phone is still connected.
