blurry video camera after 2.2

Just wanted to follow up and say that it was my stupid USB cord. Soon as I dug through my closet for another cord everything went without a hitch.

Glad to hear back, you figured it out and I didn't help someone brick their phone in a indirect kind of way.

First and foremost you take full responsibility for doing this:
1ST: download these 2 files:http://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/~mkasick/android/epic_camera_fix-EB13.tar
and this file in case you need to odin back to completely stock kernel:http://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/~mkasick/android/epic_stock-EB13.tar
2ND: Watch this video on how to use odin:
YouTube - SAMSUNG EPIC 4G HOW TO ODIN TO STOCK FROYO 2.2 DK28 AND ONE CLICK ROOT
You are going to put the previously downloaded camera fix .tar file in the PDA position exactly like he did.
Download usb drivers here under software/usb driver:
Samsung
Download odin here:
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/Odin3+v1.61andepic.pit.zip
3rd: Open up Odin and put your phone into ?download mode?
◦Turn off your phone, wait until the lights turn off
◦Hold ?1″ on the keyboard while powering up
4TH: Plug your device in
5TH: Place the .tar file in the PDA slot
6TH: Start flashing
7TH and last best of luck in your Flashing endeavors.
The other .tar file is for flashing back to completely stock kernel for updates as you may not receive them because this is essentially a custom kernel.

I know my instructions may be vague. If you are not comfortable doing this, please research it more till you are.
After I did this yesterday I rooted my Epic so i could also fix the Horizontal/Vertical rotation lag. I used the 1-click method as noted here on Android central. And then after downloading Terminal Emulater and Ran:/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha

After the manual update of 2.2, I refuse to downgrade to 2.1 to fix these issues and refuse to wait on Samsung and Sprint any longer when all of your issues can usually be resolved right here on android central and XDA in a matter of days, if not hours.

This is great, thanks! I agree too..waiting doesn't make sense....I waited mos for 2.2, only to have a bunch of probs with it...

Question...so once I run this to replace the bad stock camera kernel, the only time I would ever need to go back to 2.2 is if we want to get any official updates from Samsung/Sprint...since it will be looking for unmodded files (i.e. the camera fix)?

That's what "mkasick" over at XDA states and he is the coding Genius who fixed the error and in record time to I may say.
His forum post can be found here: [PATCH][KERNEL] EB13 camera video lag & sports mode FC fix - xda-developers
A very interesting read and makes you wonder what the hell is going on at Sprint and Samsung for them to miss something so blatantly.
It looks as if version # hasn't changed, so it will be interesting to see if you receive the update. Report back, I'm curious. I'm rooted and done a bunch of other things also, so I'm pretty sure I won't see any Sprint updates.

wait a min....still not getting this....

so this camera fix is just providing an updated kernel...is just replacing the bad kernel that came in the official 2.2 rom, right? nothing else in the official rom should be touched/modded...

also, some of the unofficial roms prob have this fix plus other updated kernels for thinks like cpu speed, better battery life, removed sprint bloatware, etc etc etc...

makes me wonder if I should flash a whole new rom instead of just a kernel piece :)

True that camera Fix Kernel is all stock. So, yes you may want to update to a Rom with more features.

well, that was uneventful :)

followed the steps and replaced the kernel..... back to having a very nice cam/camcorder again (and grabbed the original cam kernel too...just in case i can't grab any official updates later on)...

*cheers*

Thanks for great support. Worked smoothly the first time. Question:

1. Is there a difference between the driver that auto loads on my PC when first syncing the epic and the usb drivers you had us download?

2. I had a problem with the touch screen when using visible pattern to unlock. The touch would disengage during the pattern thus making me redo until lock out. But would work great after lockout. Does this fix help this?

3. Will the fix cause any problems with sprint auto updates in the future? What would cause a problem with autoupdates?

Thanks again!

I just compiled the info from my searches because some other sites can be a little less user friendly.

The driver that loads when you first sync your epic could and maybe a little more generic, IDK, from what I see in device manager it is different. I have PC's, 1 with 1 without.

Visible lock patterns I have no experience with.

And, can and will you receive updates in the future with this kernel, probably not, even though it has the same kernel version no. There is probably some kind of header file with a changed hexadecimal sum that has been changed (because of addition or subtraction of the code), that the Sprint update looks for, IDK, I am not a programmer

Good to know and thanks. So in the future and under the assumption auto updates will not occurr, where can we find the auto update file, un hacked, that we could update our OS with?

EB13 was posted here Samsung
until they took it down. The program that was posted there to update your phone would wipe it and update it to the EB13 no matter whether it was rooted or not stock. So you may want to bookmark it for when they do release an update.

How time flies! I am currently running the eb13 fix that was posted in this thread. today my phone wanted to do an update OTA. I said yes but it eventually pulled up a command prompt screen and said installation failed. I restarted the phone and everything works fine with the existing eb13 fix.

Question - has Samsung posted the update on their website? Is there any reliable ec08 update out there right now? thanks.

I had same issue with my camera. Also how the heck do I connect my phone to the computer the USB is recgoznieing it but saying it cant install. Someone said go to my phone then settings the connect to pc. But there is connect to PC option on my phone.
