Do any other wifiers have this problem after the update? I can see it if I go to settings>apps>all but I can't actually open it or see it in my regular app storage space. I tried clearing its data and cache, force closing it and rebooting but nothing. I even tried opening a book file manually but Books did not come up as an option to open it with.

Is there a less obtrusive way to restore it, or am I looking at a factory restore?

Oh, and I don't know if this is related but my market looks exactly the same as before the update. I am currently outside of the US, which I'm guessing is not a coincidence?

-thanks

Nope, I had Books after the update.. it's funny because (since I use Kindle) it was one of the apps I considered bloat and removed w/ SystemAppRemover. Then after the update I had to remove it again. lol

I would try the factory reset if I were you, or if you are able to restore it from a previous backup (assuming you had a backup app like Titanium or MyBackup?). The other alternative is try to download the app from somewhere and install it. I can email you the .apk if necessary.. it's about 1.3MB, and you can just try installing that to see if that fixes it.

ugh, so I decided to do the system restore just to make sure I was getting everything from 3.1. My market still looks the same and now even though I have the Books icon (it's not a book icon though, it's the droid robot) and when I click on it is says "Application is not installed."

So yeah, that sucked, time to set up all my emails again.

If you are rooted and have Titanium Backup, you can see if Books needs 'defrosting'. I had that issue the first time I booted up the Xoom, but it came back to life after I did that.

I bought 2 Xooms (one for wife) Her book app works, mine said not installed. I dragged mine to the trash as I couldn't find where to install it. Hers is still there after the update.

by the way, I found bookstablet.apk in //system/app
