Am I one of the only people who thinks that the new Boomsound is actually far inferior to the older ones? The speakers on my 10 sound even softer than my Note 5 speakers and the sound is teeny and lacking. It sounds pretty bad actually. I thought it was my unit but I heard another unit and it was the same thing.

AC said this is the best boomsound yet and I strongly disagree. M8 sounded miles better than this and so did M9.

The headphone sound is amazing but out of the speakers.... Pretty disappointing.

Anyone else feel this way?

Not me. It's not as good as the M8, in my opinion, and I didn't have the M9, but it is better than anything else at my house and that includes two iPhones (6 and 6s) and a GS6Edge+. Hands down it is superior by a country mile.

I think the 10 is inferior mostly due to not having front facing speakers. I'd love to hear this phone with them! It makes such a difference. The first time I heard the M7, I was blown away at just how big and loud it sounded. The front facing speakers were such a good idea.

Yeah I liked front facing, definitely. However, I also don't mind any kind of facing speakers as long as they are loud (for a phone speaker) and have a good sound.

I don't think this phone has either of those qualities, and I was looking forward to that too. Either way, I really like the phone, but I expected more from the sound based on reviews and hype.

Vocals are more engaging and detailed with the new speakers for sure. But, bass doesn't travel as well so they sound thinner in the "boom".

As an audio engineer, you can't reproduce a 35 ft bass sound wave from a tiny, very tiny little speaker.. If you get any resemblance of bass, your doing good...

I found music is ok but no longer usable as a speaker phone. The speakers are designed to disperse sound which isnt great for voice. M7 Speakers RULE!

That's odd. Are you placing it in such a way that the bottom speaker is blocked? I never used to put people on speaker, even with the M8, but with the 10 the sound is so clear on both ends that it hardly diminishes the sound quality vs speaking directly (save for them hearing a little room noise coming from my end).

Yeah, whilst they are pretty damn good, they're not as loud as the M8 etc. Just last night I was walking outside at work (which is fairly noisy) watching something on youtube. Had to put the phone nearly up to the ear to hear what this guy was saying. Would never have to do that with the M8.

But watching stuff inside the house is awesome, you can definitely notice the quality of sound. Just wish they were front facing. I don't need the fingerprint scanner, I've turned it off since the first day.

The 10 is not nearly as loud as the M7 or the M9. I wish HTC would bump up the loudness through an update. This 10 volume sucks.

All my sounds for notifications all sound plenty loud. Music sounds good and has plenty of volume to work with. I tried out google play music just to check something and it sounds much quieter at the same volume when compared to Poweramp at the same setting. With Poweramp I have quite a few notches before full volume and its already plenty loud. I dont expect a miracle from the speakers as lets face it, they are really small. So in a normal situation, its plenty loud for music. I also think it sounds just as good if not better than my M8. Its certainly not a case of one sound far better or far worse though.

Exactly, agreed....

Although Im not an audio engineer, i am a keyboard player.. so I do love great audio... the thing to bear in mind about the 10 speakers is they are not true stereo... the bottom is the bass and mid (majority of the sound), the top is the tweeter (cymbals, tsk tsk and ssss vocals, echoes, reverbs and effects) which together create the mid-range somewhere in the middle (its pulled all together), but i think either HTC or their marketing have gotten themselves over-excited, and havent really explained properly how this system works.. so reviewers run away with themselves and people get mixed up.

I must admit, I do like the speakers and Im happy with them... but i do agree.. I think the M8 sounded a little better :)

Maybe toggle boomsound between music and theatre mode. That can sometimes affect it a lot, depending on the content. Positioning is critical as the 10's primary speaker is the bottom port.
I've tested them side by side and they have relatively equal volume but the 10 gets louder in the mid-range and the M8 has more low end volume.

Pretty much how I felt when comparing the 2 when I got home with the 10. I actually think I prefer the sound of the 10, but like you said, it isnt as easy to to get highest quality sound/volume due to speaker location. M8/9 more or less could be set on a table and sounded pretty good regardless of angle. This need to be set to face you more etc. Either way, M8, M9 and 10 are miles ahead of any other flagships currently stock speaker wise. One of the biggest reasons I always stick with HTC
