How to Change Your Boot Animation.

******UPDATE-I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING DIFFERENT ANIMATIONS ON SUPERCLEAN 1.0. WHEN I GET TIME I WILL TRY THEM ON OTHER ROMS.

Confrimed Working Through CWM:
android peeing on apple

nexus bios fast

How to change you boot animation. JaeKar99 and I thought it would be more useful in one thread.

I have seen this question many times, and have asked it myself, so I thought it was time we had a how on it. So here ya go.

The first thing you will need is a kernel that will support custom boot animations. Most of the custom kernels support custom boot animations. The only ones I know of that dont are the stock kernels. I could be wrong so if anyone knows of any custom kernels that dont support custom boot animations please post here or let me know and i will post it.

The thing about boot animation and shutdown animation is that there are a couple of different methods for different files. Start with Method 1 and if that doesn’t work move on.

I should mention that you should create a backup before trying this. However it isn’t necessary to do so every time. I have yet to brick my phone flashing boot animation, and yes I have tried. If it does not work, your phone will not brick, you just won’t have an animation on start up. Data wipe and cache clear are not necessary.

I will assume a beginner to intermediate understanding of the phone to simplify the instructions.

For each of the three methods you will need to download the animation and put them on your SD card. Make sure they are NOT named “bootanimation.zip”. I like to keep things organized, so I have mine in sdcard/ROM’s/Animations.

JaeKar99 has compiled an excellent list of animations:

List of ROM's, Kernels & Themes

Boot Animation Method 1: ROM Manager

I suppose the simplest way is through ROM Manager. This will only work if you have green CWM Flashed.

1. Open ROM Manager

2. Select “Install ROM From SD Card” and press OK

3. Select the animation you want and press OK

4. At this point ROM Manager will ask you check if you want to backup you existing ROM and if you want to Wipe Data and Cache. Pick what you want and press OK.

Boot Animation Method 2: Clock Work Manager

1. Boot into recovery mode.

2. Select update.zip (if you are running red cwm you don’t need to do this)

3. Select install .zip from SD card then choose zip from SD card

4. Select the animation you want then select yes

Boot Animation Method 3: Manually replacing the bootanimation.zip

1. Using a file explorer with su permission, select the animation you want and copy it to system/media.

2. In the system/media folder you will see a file named “bootanimation.zip”. Rename it “bootanimation.zip.old”.

3. Now rename the new animation file “bootanimation.zip”.

4. Restart your phone. You may need to restart twice for the animation to work.

How to Change Your Boot Sound

SO FAR THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR 2.2.

So ive been crazy at work and havent had time to get the rest of these up. Sheepdog Elite beat me to it, and I have shamelessly plagerized his post. you can find it on post 17 of this thread. Thanks Sheepy!!!!!

You'll need
1. Root Explorer (cost=<$4.00)
2. Audacity open source sound editor (or anything comparable that you choose)

Clip up your sound file of choice in audacity. Export as .wav file.
Move to SD card.
Use root explorer to navigate to /system/etc and find the PowerOn.wav file, and rename to PowerOn.wav.old
Locate your custom start up sound, copy and paste into /system/etc
Rename to PowerOn.wav being sure to use the capitals exactly as I have. Reboot and enjoy your new start up sound.

I also had these in working order prior to flashing voodoo.

Are there lots of shut down animations available? Or maybe just a zip for a samsung one? I really hate the verizon shut down and would like one I can stick in with whatever I flash.

The are only a few at the moment. Most of the links are at the top of this thread.

I have found a few shutdown animations. They seem to be fewer than the boots but they are out there.

They will be added as I find them. There are no associated previews - yet.

Enjoy
