So I rooted in early 2011 with Unrevoked3 so I could lose the bloatware and run tethering. That was as much as I really ever did or needed my root access for. Since then, I have been using the stock rom, S-Off, and getting by just fine with the now dusty 2.2 Froyo.
So I have about 5 months left before my contract is up and I get new phone, figure I can breathe some new life into this Evo by finally getting her up to date. Trouble is, I dont even know what the most up to date software is. 2.3? 2.3.5? 20X6?
Anyway, I WAS in the process of UNrooting with the RUU method, but got the annoying Error 170 USB connection problem. Now I am at the hard reset/factory 2.2 Sense settings. So I figure at this point, before I brick my phone, I might try just flashing an updated rom/kernel.
Any suggestions on something that will help with stock battery life and memory usage? Nothing too fancy needed, and I do like the basic Sense UI layout, but Im up for anything new at this point.
Also, its been a long while. What would be the best method these days for flashing a new rom, and do I need to even worry about the kernel?
Evo 4g 2.2
Kernel: 2.6.32.17
Build: 3.70.651.1
Hardware 0004
Thanks all,
Merlin
