So I decided I wanted to check out some ROMs and use some other features of a rooted phone so I went with Unrevoked3...first mistake. I find out after using that method I can't use certain ROMs, especially the ones I wanted to try, and that it isn't a real root.
So about a week later Froyo comes out and I figure since I don't have a true root that I will just return my device to stock, update to official froyo and worry about root later.
Here's the sequence that led me here now.
used Unrevoked3 method to quasi root phone
installed wireless tether, root explorer (to try and remove sprint apps), and played with nandroid backups (which turned out to be awesome.)
I tried using the latest RUU from shippedroms and that didn't work (later i would find out i was using the wrong version) to try and restore phone to stock
discouraged from the RUU not working I was reading a thread here that led me to another forum, that led me to xda developers that had a walkthrough on how to restore my phone to stock again.
the walkthrough said to use simple root to gain full root access then use the RUUs to get me back to stock.
I followed the guide and used simple root to try and gain full root.
now this is where the S### hit the fan and now where I am stuck.
when i boot my phone into power+down volume dev mode it looks for the PC36IMG.ZIP and other versions of that file. It has a long loading bar at the top right where it tries to verify it and when that finishes it says that the main version is older and the update failed. It asks if i want to restart, i say no, and it allows me to go back to the main screen where I can select Recovery and go into Clockwork and use nandroid and all its features.
sd checking
loading...PC36DIMG.ZIP
No Image!
loading...PC36DIMG.nhh (i think that is the correct extension)
no image or wrong image
loading...PC36IMG.ZIP
Checking PC36IMG.ZIP
Main version is older!
update fail
do you wan to reboot
yes
no
I just want to return my phone to its stock OS so i can update it and take it into the Sprint store as I have recently noticed the screen starting to come up near the bottom buttons.
Please help
