Bose Bluetooth headset noisy with Galaxy s5

I have successfully used an earlier model of the Bose Bluetooth headset with an older Motorola Droid phone - the noise-cancelling Bose technology seemed to work very well. I recently upgraded to the Galaxy s5 and purchased a new Bose Bluetooth headset as well, and am now experiencing virtually NO noise-cancelling benefit, actually almost the opposite effect - seems as if background noise is amplifed rather than diminished.
