Bothered that the Note 7 is the S7 Edge with larger screen, S Pen, & smaller battery?

It doesn't bother me at all because I like my wife's S7 and if it had an S Pen it would be perfect for me.

$900 is a lot considering a top of the line phone 5 years ago on a two year renewal would run $199.99. My Samsung laptop with an i5 processor and all of the latest software ran me $650 on Black Friday last year. I'm still trying to digest the enormous cost of present day high end phones.

But, I understand why they're expensive. The research and development going into these devices is a whole new playing field. Companies require more engineers and more raw R&D time. Also the technology in these phones is pretty amazing when you consider that a time not long ago, owning the Motorola Razor made you cool.

I don't think I'm ready to throw down $900 on a cell phone yet. I'll spring for an S7 Edge. Who would have thought cell phones would be more costly than computers lol?

Plus over the last few years incomes generally have not been going up as well. They're down since the recession people make less than they did before the recession. You would think the prices like computers would go down eventually. Remember when desktops used to be like $3000? Best Buy now has the black S7 edge instock, order online which is only $749. If the Note is over $840 or so I might consider it. The only way this should cost near $900 if it's for a version that is 128gb for a 64gb is too much. Unless you use a ton of storage space and already have a Note 5 then I don't see the reason to upgrade from a Note 5 just for an Iris scanner unless you need the water resistance. I'm curious how much the V20 will cost though. If it has the outstanding camera, removable battery, and IR blaster and is cheaper then I might go for it especially if they include a free battery like they do with their phones sometimes. Plus it's more durable and slap on a Defender style case and don't have to worry as much about it. Even these new Galaxy's with a Defender on it I'd still worry about the back glass shattering.

The note 7 is a huge disappointment compared to my Ford Escape, but that's not a fair comparison. Neither is the comparison to the S7 edge. They are very different devices, aimed at a different crowd. For those who think the S7 Edge is the right phone for them, it is available. The Note 7 is not an upgrade from it, nor is it intended to be one. Its the large form factor version.

One other note, do you realize that people on reddit, this forum, and all the other internet sites combine to a fraction of a percent of the Note purchasers. So our hatered or love of a device amounts to nearly nothing to Samsung... nor should it. Now take the percentage of users who actually paid for a S7 device and will now be considering a Note 7.... talk about a minuscule subset of the market. Hey all the more power to ya... but you account for a tiny, tiny, tiny amount of business, and are not even considered in the conversation when either device is being developed...(Thank god!)

I would've said the Ford Escape is a huge disappointment compared to the Note 7.

I would rather have an updated processor and 6GB of ram than a gimmicky iris scanner. :'(

Same here. Finger print scanner works just fine for me. Iris scanner is a gimmick.

Well I read where a nurse said it would help them when they are wearing latex gloves they wouldn't have to take the gloves off to unlock the phone.

It amazes me that people are turning this situation into a negative.

Samsung saw the desire from people who wanted a phone bigger than the standard Galaxy Galaxy S line, but didn't need the Notes features, so they created the S7 Edge this year to fit that demographic. And people have raved about how great the phone is, overall.

Now, all of a sudden, people are up in arms all over the Internet because the Note may not have a big spec increase over the S7 Edge, and that it's just a S7E with s-pen.

Yes, that's pretty much what it is. And that's awesome! If the S7 Edge was never released, people would be losing their minds over how amazing the Note 7 is, with its huge battery increase over the Note 5, USB C, etc.

If not for changes, Samsung can release all 3 phones at the same time. If they are taking time, people expect change and mostly improvements.

You don't have to buy the phone if you're disappointed. Keep your phone, and wait for the best next thing.

I'll buy the phone disappointment and all. :-\ Would have been happier with an update processor and ram though.

re: Bothered that the Note 7 is the S7 Edge with larger screen, S Pen, & smaller battery?

Not really. I was going to get a S7 Edge THROUGH THE CARRIER just because I thought it was an awesome phone. But then Samsung brought out the Unlocked version. And now this. So a "Note" that is close to the next best thing, plus the S Pen...

If you were really disappointed, then you should not buy the phone. It seems your complaining just to complain. I guess you have nothing better to do.

This is correct while waiting for the Note 7 ^^

Right. Because the Note 7 absolutely has an updated processor and RAM from the Note 5.

If you have a Note 5 I think it's a big upgrade. If you have the S7 Edge, I don't think it's much of an upgrade at all unless you want the Spen.

re: Bothered that the Note 7 is the S7 Edge with larger screen, S Pen, & smaller battery?

It doesn't really bother me. The S7/Edge were pretty damn good phones. I thought the Note 5 was a bit more luckluster, and I skipped that. The Note 7 definitely looks like a decent upgrade though.

Still hoping for some additional goodies at the event (improved audio quality, new camera tricks, Quick Charge 3.0, etc).

Should have 3.0. Maybe headphone quality but with water resistance I doubt we are getting amazing speakers. Iris scanner is a camera trick so that's new...

I am happy with my edge that is my main phone but I also use an LG g5, but any one has an note 4 or 5 then it's an great upgrade.

I think we should be comparing the Note7 to the Note5.

It wasn't design to leapfrog or replace the S7e as the top-tier offering. Instead, it seems to be aiming to complement the flagship line.

Plus, if we compare it to the Note5, we actually see quite a number of significant improvements.
