bought a galaxy s3 in korea and using it in canada

I honestly have no idea where else to ask...
Could anyone please tell me if I'll be able to get the jelly bean update for this unit? Kies 2.0 tells me my device doesn't support software upgrading via kies. Whenever I press software update on my phone, it says to use my korean usim card to update. The more I look around I have a feeling I won't be getting the update via approved/legit ways. Hmmm. I feel increasing more lost the more I look around and read articles on how to root and unroot and installing leaked firmwares.

Would it be possible to get a new SIM card from your local carrier?

Not sure if that would help or not but it might be worth a shot.
