Hey guys, just wanted to give a heads up to all my EVO brothers and sisters. I walked out of work today and noticed that I was roaming which was kinda weird. So of course when I sat down in the car i figured I give the ol' PRL an update attempt...sure enough went from version 60681 up to version 60683. I have noticed a increase in 3G speed, which is never a bad thing. Anyway...just wanted to let everyone know. :)

I feel that 3G is a little bit more speedy. Just a little bit. I think the towers in my area are being worked on, because prior to the update I've noticed a subtle speed increase. Coverage hasn't changed, though. Still 1 to 2 bars in my house. :(

This new PRL might have something to do with their new network plans. They did say they are launching their LTE network in the first half of next year. Perhaps there will be a few secret protection sites that they don't release so they can see how the network performs in that particular area. :)

Sounds like that's be the deal. I hope they'll test it in my town! Sprint/Clearwire gave a small hillbilly town about 20 minutes away 4G, but haven't given it to us yet and we're about twice the size. So mean. >:l

Your preaching to the choir man, I've some of the smallest townships get a full blown WiMAX signal and we get one half-a$$ed tower to cover over 200,000 people...wtf? :(

Im confused... I thought the prl (preferred roaming list) only had to do with updating the list of towers for roaming? Aka if a roaming agreement with another carrier changes, it either adds or removes certain towers from your list. If sprint doesn't allow for 3G roaming, how can this affect speed? Don't get me wrong, I just updated my prl and it does seem like my data is faster, but I'm pretty sure its either an illusion or a coincidence.

Simple dude, if the area your in is a roaming area (as in my case) then the more towers the faster the speed. :)

You have to flash to any Stock Evo 4G ROM and update your PRL. This might work with any Sense ROM, but I've always just kept a rooted stock ROM on hand for just such an occasion.

NAND backup via recovery > full wipe > flash rooted stock ROM > update PRL > boot into Recovery > full wipe > restore your backup
