Please Help... I flashed the MR2 update (both items - the radio and the other one) to my phone and now my phone appears to be bricked. What do I do now? Any fixes out there or do I have to buy a new phone?

Your assuming the OP actually built a backup file... and even if they did it does not contain the Radio.
Because Verizon kept pushing the update on my rooted phone, I tried to do the MR2 update.....

I didn't know you were only supposed to do the radio update. I did both and now my phone can't get any internet connection and can't make any phone calls.... so I guess not completely bricked but can't do much with it anymore.
I have tried doing all the cache wipes and factory reset to no avail. I've also tried to flash new roms without any success either. So frustrating!

Seems like a lot of these posts are popping up this weekend. Guess a lot of people are rooting without doing much research.

I flashed both the radio.img and the mdm9k.img using the bootloader. The link doesn't say to just do the radio.img. Flashing both caused my problem.
Anyone know of a way to undo the mdm9k.img? Or any other fix? Thanks for all the help!

You need to be using a custom ROM for that radio.
Its in the second line of text in that post on XDA "THIS WILL ONLY WORK FOR MR2 BASED FROYO/GINGERBREAD ROMS"
You're using the stock ROM that came with the phone correct?
I think so but I'm not sure.... all I downloaded and flashed was what was provided in that link. This was my first attempt at flashing anything, other than when I first rooted the phone a while back using the easy auto root method.
Isn't the mdm9k.img file the ROM? Total newbie at this stuff.
There's a leaked Gingerbread Radio that will work with stock rooted but I don't recommend that unless you know how to disable the Verizon OTA push... otherwise you will end up like a lot of the other members right now with a phone that doesn't work and a screen with an exclamation point.
In order to use that radio.. you need a custom ROM. Example.. Bamf, Gingeritis, CM7,etc... Here's the info on flashing custom ROMs: http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...estore-install-roms-thunderbolt-new-post.html

Alright... download this zip file and place it on the root of your SD Card.. its the 2.10 Gingerbread RUU and flash it through hboot just like you did with the past radio. You might want to use a computer to download it. I've run into problems before downloading these large zips from my phone.. only half of the file downloads. Make sure you downloaded 436.83MB for this file.

WOW, awesome!!!! Thanks so much... I installed the RUU you provided and now I have my internet connection and can make calls again. This is way better than before!
The only issue I see now is I only get "1X" and not 4G LTE.
UPDATE: Okay, I reboted and now I get 4G!!! I was ready to buy a new phone in the morning thinking I had a bricked phone... so happy I don't have to now! Thanks so much!

Okay good. I was just about to say.. toggle the data connection on and off but I see you got it working.
Disable the OTA... you will need an app called Root Explorer from the market... do not accept any Verizon updates until you disable this file. It can always be reversed if you decide you want to use a Verizon update in the future... you're just renaming the file for now.

I just did the Root Explorer and tried to change the name of the file... it says my phone needs to be rooted?? That's strange. I guess the gingerbread RUU unrooted the phone? If so, should I unroot using the easy auto root?
Regardless, my phone is functioning now so I'm happy!!!
Yes, the ruu unrootste phone, installs new rom and radio. There is a way to rootthe gingerbread ruu' s if you really want to. Its here in the roms and hacks forum.
Is it the gingerbreak? Do you know whether there is confirmation this works on the Thunderbolt. The last thing I want to do is screw my phone up again. :-[

running original stock rom 1.12.605.6 and want to flash custom rom, because got nailed by ota and stuck at exclamation mark. did recovery and back up then reset to factory settings and lost root, but phone works fine, though ota still gets me weekly and have to reset again.
did a restore to get back to root, and want to do a custom rom to totally fix.
don't know which to choose. bamf forever? soab? which one? other?
some threads say don't need a new radio or kernel for custom rom... not sure
need advice about which rom that will work and link to download and if any uniques steps.
so appreciate any help you could give. would love to hear from Cyber Warrior. need that kind of detail.
