We have 4 atrix phones... good news is that 3 of the 4 updated successfully. So for those of you who are gun shy due to bad past experiences you can be somewhat reassured by the number of successes you see.

Bad news - 1 phone bricked because my husband failed to read the "fine print" , due to not having his reading glasses on, about ensuring full battery charge and having it plugged in, AND have a strong WIFI connection. So I suspect the battery quit during the update [showed 10% when I put it into my phone to check] . The phone attempted to update and got stuck somewhere. When he returned to it screen is on startup screen with dos type message on top "failed to boot 2" and "starting RSD mode".

Here's what I've done so far:
Battery switched with my fully charged. Plugged in.
next to WIFI router
Battery in and out a few times - same screen result
AT&T customer technical support - referred me to Motorola.com
Motorola steps for External hard reset - no change
Motorola chat and phone technical support - says bring the phone back and exchange at AT&T

So, rather than re-flash the rom and void my husband's warranty, I'll hope that AT&T will replace since the phones are only 32 days old.
If anyone has any non-warranty-voiding remedies - please post. Thx

PS.. I also did a typed recommendation to Motorola to put those two critical items in BOLD RED font, so these incidences could be reduced.

Update - Not great options

AT&T would not replace the phone, the phone is 33 days old, so 3 days beyond the store replacement period. So now it falls under the one-year Motorola warranty. They acted like they were sending me a NEW phone, and then after 1.5 hours of their disclosures and back and forth with the ATT rep in the store, it turned out that they were sending a refurbished phone. Not acceptible - so I opted to ship it for repair so I wouldn't void the warranty messing with the OS myself. So we'll have it back in just under two weeks hopefully.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. However, even when you ship it back, you may still get a refurbished unit back, it's not guaranteed that you will get the same unit back. For what it's worth, I've been with AT&T (and Cingular) for 14 years or so. In that time, i've gotten refurbished Motorola, Samsung, and iPhones and they all looked and behaved brand new. They truly were spit-shined to new. Let us know how it turns out.

I really dont think that you need to try and go back to AT&T and return it since Im pretty sure they wont accept it back after the 30 days.

Now, let me give you some info. re-flashing the SBF file and redoing everything all over again does NOT void your warrenty. Flashing the sbf file is like reinstalling windows on your computer fresh, like the day it was when you first purchased it. And since your phone is bricked, thats what needs to be done to bring it back. And its not hard to do it at all. You download the file and one simple program and its like a 3 click process and does everything for you. Takes about 15 minutes for the process and then your back on the Atrix with factory fresh settings like it was when you first bought it. Its simple to do. I had to do it because my phone was rooted with custom hacking things done to it. Developers flash the file all the time and tell us how to do it because they develop different hacks for these phones. All Androids are somewhat like that.

Can you give me the sdk files and the program to flash it? Is it rsd lite I've tried using it with my atrix and it connects but it fails as soon as i click start.
