Locked up at boot while updating from Virtuous 3.0.1 to 3.1.0 help?

I have Virtuous 3.0.1 that I flashed onto my Unrevoked forever Dinc using ROM Manager. I attempted to update it by downloading the new ROM and installing it. I didnt wipe cache and data but just installed it. It installed but when it tried to boot it got to the droid eye and locked up. I had to go back and restore my previous image. Any tips on how to do it without wiping data and cache. Thanks.

Psst...if you could restore your phone, you did not brick it. About the only way to truly brick an Android phone is to bork a radio upgrade.

Did you download the ROM over your phone using ROM Manager? You may have a mangled .zip file.

Try downloading it on your PC and copy it from there to your sd card.

Virtuous wont update to 3.1.0 stuck in boot

I currently have Virtuous 3.0.1 and I want to update to 3.1.0. I have downloaded the .zip and put it on my sd card, then I go into ClockworkMod and install and I have tried with and without wiping data and cache with no luck. It gets about half way through the install and then closes out and tries to boot. It only gets to the droid eye and then freezes didnt know what I was doing wrong or if I half to revert back to stock then reflash. I am s-off forever and root user obviously. Any help would be awesome thanks.

Did you download the ROM via ROM Manager or not?

If you did, download it on your PC, copy it to your sd card, then reflash it.

You may have gotten a corrupted file.

As for your question, if you are having that issue when you do not wipe your device then i would strongly recommend wiping your device. It may be a pain to do so BUT it will start you off at a clean slate with performance. I know certain rom developers say that you do not have to wipe when you upgrade their rom but I always wipe. It is always better to put in the effort for desired results then to try to cut around the corners. That is in no way insulting you but just a general belief that I have.

@Cwitty -

How long did you wait on the Droid Eye Page?

It takes 4 - 5 minutes for the rom to boot the first time, but after the first boot it starts up normally.

I would think you have a bad .zip i have been running the latest virtuous Rom and did it with and without a wipe with no issue I also added kings kernel #5 last night still giving it a whirl to see if it will improve battery so ....that's my schtick LOL
