Do you have the latest Java/JRE installed?

Screencast needs to download its jar file when it starts up. It sounds like either Java wasn't installed correctly or there is some classpath problem so it can't find stuff.

Also try what is suggested here (enable direct connection):

I think they should have resolved that in the latest JRE but maybe not.

Yes that is the window you are supposed to see on the PC. However, it should be displaying the framebuffer of your phone, assuming it is turned on. If your phone's display is not displaying anything at the moment (for example the screen blank was triggered due to inactivity) then that would explain the blank screen.

You definitely made progress though as Android Screencast was able to download its jar file and it was able to at least partially communicate with adb on your phone.
