Broken power button, is there any other way to turn the phone on?

My power button just started acting up about a week ago so I decided to call Tech support. I got to tier 2 and they are sending me out a refurb under Samsung warranty even though it was 5 months out of date. You might want to try to call Big V and see if the will give you a warranty exchange like they are doing with me. I didn't think they would have any S3 32gig models left but they do. At least this should last me till Nov. till I can upgrade to a S5.

I have not tried on my GS3, but I can power my LG G2 on by placing it on the wireless charging pad. I know they sell Qi charging adapters for the GS3 for about $5 shipped, then you have to have a pad to charge it on. I got a Nokia branded one for $21 from AT&T. YMMV.

Hello! here's how you can switch on your Samsung galaxy young s5360 even without its power button..

1. press hold volume up button + home button.
2. connect your phone charger to the electric outlet and connect it also into your phone while still holding a press to the two buttons.
3. wait until the Samsung galaxy y icon appeared and switch on to the phone's recovery mode.
4. after that, release the two buttons, and choose REBOOT SYSTEM.
5. press the home key to activate reboot...
6. And your Samsung galaxy y s5360 will be automatically switch on. :D

Just in case anyone has same problem as me, I have no power button and also cannot get into download mode. No idea why, I used to before I removed power button.

Anyway after docking around with battery and power cable for about an hour I have found a new way to switch the phone on without a power button. I did it once by accident then spent the next hour trying to do it again, finally I got it!

1. Remove the battery
2. Plug in power cable
3. Replace the battery
4. Straight away remove the power cable
5. Phone boots!

Cheers
Si

Welcome to the forums!
I have no power button and also cannot get into download mode.
If you follow your steps to power on the device while also pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home buttons you should be able to boot into Download mode.

to turn your phone on try the following action :

plug in your usb connector into your phone for exactly 3 sec and take it off ...

you must try several times ...

if the battery icon appears take usb cable off and try again.

It works for sure ... but you have to be as accurate as possible : 3 sec ...

Gianniakis911's solution also worked for me!!! After prying open the phone to clean the power buttons on my Galaxy S2, trying several things and button combinations, this solution is simple and worked for me. Thanks, just saved me 200euros for a new phone!!

New otter case, the buttons are stiff, is there a way how to turn off the complete phone off without forcing on the power button?

Well there is a solution for it.....follow instructions as mentioned ..
1. pull out the battery.
2. connect phone with charger and switch the charger "ON".
3. press "volume up" and "menu button" simultaneously for upto 10-15 seconds.
4. leave buttons and insert battery soon..
5. samsung logo will appear and it will run in recovery mode.
6. just press "menu button" to reboot..and u r done!!!!
Remember u always need a charger to do this process.....without charger it is impossible..
Note- U may not get success in first try...keep calm ...u will succeed in 3-5 trials....once u done it...u will become habitual to it and then it will be much easier 4 u...i m doing it from last 2years.

A couple days ago the power button on my Galaxy S3 began to randomly send my phone into a restart loop from hell. I had to pull the battery and wait 5 minutes before it would stop. This happened several times. I can’t even begin to express how crazy this made me.

I tried using Gravity to fix the problem but I wasn’t able to lock the phone whenever I wanted
because Gravity uses the stock lock-screen settings. It either locked every time I turned it on or not at all. After a lot of trial and error I finally hit on a combination of apps that worked for me and
I’ve decided I’d like to share this fix here. I’ve only used this with Nova, I doubt it will work with a stock launcher.

The apps.

Nova Launcher Prime. (Y’all should have it anyway)
Gravity
Smart Applock (free version)
Tasker with the Auto-Shortcut plugin.

The steps:

Set up Gravity however you want it. ( I’ve found that it’s less annoying with the proximity sensor turned off and the sensitivity set way down around 4 or 5)
Gravity has a ton of options. So it takes a while to get it dialed in.

Set Smart App-Lock to lock just Nova launcher. This lets you lock the phone from a shortcut you can create using Tasker with the Auto-Shortcut plug-in.

Here’s how I set up the shortcut. It’s extra detailed in case If you haven’t had any experience with Tasker.

1. Create a new task in Tasker. I named mine “Lock Toggle”
2. Touch the +.
3. Go to “plugin”
4. Then choose AutoShortcut.

5. Configuration. Choose “Smart App-Lock” from the list. Hit OK. *If “unlock now” pops up just hit cancel. It will still work. Press the check-mark to exit configuration.

6. Press the back arrow (next to action edit) at the top to go back to the previous screen which will now have an entry saying “Smart Applock(on/off)”

7. Repeat steps 2-6 once. This creates an automatic toggle. The toggle launches Smart App-locks pattern lock (or whatever lock method you like) when the screen is turned off by the next step.

8. Hit the + again. Go to plugin then Auto-Shortcut. Configuration – Gravity screen off.

That’s it. Hit the back arrow again. Then exit Tasker.

Gestures are one of the many great things about Nova Launcher. I have mine set-up to turn the screen off (without the screen-lock) on a double tap to the desktop. And to turn it off (with the screen-lock) when I swipe one of my icons.

To do that. Long-press the icon. Press edit. Swipe action. Shortcuts. Task shortcut, then the shortcut you just created in Tasker. Or you could just have a shortcut on the desktop if you’d prefer.

One more thing. You’ll need to assign an icon to the shortcut the first time you try and launch it. I just downloaded a pic of an ignition lock that I liked and used that.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.
