Broken promises...

After confirmations by Honor Support that the Honor 5X would receive an update to Android 7.0, Honor has now confirmed that there will be no such update. I'm really disappointed - I think the Honor 5X could have been such a great phone if it was better supported, and I really was excited for the Honor brand to become the best low to mid-range brand. Hopefully, they'll support the 6X and the 8 better.

I feel like the Snapdragon 617 isn't aging well.

It isn't surprising. It was the red herring even from the get go. Updates were slow out of the gate. With that said other Chinese manufacturer like Motorola reneg on update promises too. Not saying it is right, just that they aren't the only one to do it.

I think it's more honor's implementation. My old Moto g4 runs the same cpu and runs smoother than my honor 5x.

To note, moto released nougat for the g4 a few months ago.

Oh, yeah. I have the g4, too, and it's super smooth!

Mmmm...the 'ole 5X.

Loved it at first.
It's the phone that helped me become a fan of the Huawei/honor brand.

You did? I mean for me performance was lagging from day one compared to similarly specd devices. Emui4 was definitely unique though. And the camera was great for it's price.

It was the first smartphone which I bought for aesthetics and not just specs

It's definitely a good looking phone, even by today's standards, IMO. Too many phones in this price bracket ignore aesthetics, and glad that Honor didn't.

It's disappointing to know that as a brand, they are turning into everyone else, when they were standing out so well as a customer centered company. It's sad to me because I initially bought my 5x based on the fact it could be updated. So to me it feels like false advertising. I was such a big advocate for their brand, and now I feel stupid.

Well the big ones now will usually try to keep their promises, or will try to do something to compensate you if they can't. Honor has done neither in this case

Not sure they ever stood out so well as a customer centered company.

I think, looking back on my experience, you may be right. I was so impressed with the product initially that it may have clouded my judgement. Until they make this right, (which i highly doubt they will) I am going to be honest about how quickly obsolete their products are. I REALLY was a advocate to everyone who asked about their brand. But I'm honestly thinking about switching brands on principle. We aren't important to them, just money.

And you are right about the big brands standing behind their products, that's why they are big brands. They know how important customers are.

Consumers are important in so much as we spend money on their products. Otherwise they don't really care.

The soc is really slow on my 5X right now. Too bad it didnt get the update. And ran smoother with it

The soc isn't bad. My zte Zmax pro ran well on the same soc. Could be an optimization issue with honor 5x.
