Having duplicate lines in any config file is a bad idea. At least # them out.

While I am not sure of that, if you are adding settings to build.prop and you want to keep original settings too, drop a "#" in front of the original one and it will be ignored when applying. This can also be used to add notes to say, identify what was changed or what a group of lines are intended to do. Just drop the pound sign and any text desired.
