Burn In

I just recently went through this same issue. I got my Note 8 right before Christmas. Shortly after I started seeing screen burn in from the home screen icons.

It got so bad that I could see them on every screen I went to.

I went to AT&T and they told me that it was a manufacturing defect and that I had to go to Samsung.

I called Samsung and they gave me 2 options.
1- send the phone in and get it back 3-4 weeks later or
2- Take it to their certified repair partner UBreakIFix.

I chose to take the drive to the repair shop.
It took like 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete.

The phone is like brand new again and the issue is gone.
They replaced the LED panel, the outer glass and the metal frame around the phone.

The experience was good and the service was excellent!

They told me that there were 2 different manufacturers for the panels and one of them had issues with burn in.

Did Samsung pay the repair cost or did you have to?

They paid the entire cost. The phone is still under warranty.
Thanks. I might give Samsung a try vs dealing with VZW again. Especially if the Note 9 rumors are true that there won't be that much difference between it and the N8. If I keep this for two years the burn-in will make me too angry!

I just noticed that mine has screen burn as well. Got my Note 8 at launch. I can see a "shadow" of my desktop icons whenever I'm on a web page or app with a mostly white background.

I have the brightness set to Auto and it times out at one minute. The odd thing is, it's rarely on the home screen. But those icons are what's burned in. When I'm using the phone, I'm not staring at the home screen. And when I'm not using the phone, the screen is off.

Exactly this ^

Mine also shows a "shadow" of the Beautiful Widgets icon. Funny (not) part is that the "digital" clock display has the shadow of the numbers as if every number were layered over one another at the same time. The home screen is never displayed frequently, nor long enough to show every single time sequence for any length of time.

AND the navigation bar shadow shows, which is rarely visible.

Same here for the screen being off when not in use.

From experience, if under warranty, Samsung will replace the screen and Verizon will offer to replace the phone with a refurbished unit. keep in mind, ANY damage will negate the Verizon option.

As with my experience, my only option is to return it to Samsung, so I'm looking at up to three weeks without a phone (and I can't afford to go a day without, much less 21).
