Buy your G4 from Bestbuy and get a $100 giftcard, no contract required or activation

They wouldn't let me do it for some reason. He said because I bought it unactivated or something. Again not a huge deal as I shop at best buy all the time , still would of been nice , wish they let you apply gift cards to your best buy credit card though.

I'd go back and ask for it because you get the gift card if you buy it full price.

I got the gift card. I just couldn't apply it to the purchase.

Went back to my BB. Told them I wanted to buy the phone outright. Girl went to go check with her manager and was told they wouldn't sell me the phone outright without activating it in the store. I asked her why, she told me that's how they make money. I told her I know of numerous other people who were able to buy their phone from BB outright from other BB and were not required activate. She said that shouldn't be true that it's company policy to activate the phone right there in store.

I said, that doesn't sound right and left. I didn't think it was worth getting the manager over and arguing with him/her because chances are they would have done whatever was in their power to shoot down the GC (I had already requested Sprint price match). I guess my next step is to try a different BB and give it another go. What a pain.

It boggles my mind how service varies by location

You should have stood your ground and spoke with a manager. If you would have, he/she wouldn't have been able to justify having to activate it.

I'm sorry to say but they are morons. I'm still waiting on my 4 gift cards because the system glitched and they didn't print up. Now I have to wait for an email. I have spoken to 3 reps, every 1 of them told me something different, smh

The bb around me does it too. They claimed it was something with people reselling phones or something (i had bought the phone full price so not sure why what I do after the fact makes any difference, but thats best buy for you)

Unfortunately not, the gift card does not get issued until your payment has been taken and approved. I tried this myself

That sucks, i was able to apply the $50 GC i got toward my G3 last year and my wifes iphone 5c, so it took care of the tax and cases.

I went into my local BB, (Deptford, NJ) was told by the rep I had to either lease the phone or do easy pay to get the $100 GC. Made no sense to me. Maybe I'll try a different BB.

The ads fine print doesnt say this, just says to purchase it. Try another or call BB customer service to order

Back in the 1st post I added a pic of my receipt, take that with you, download it on your phone and they cannot refuse to do it, they have to match the deal

Update:

I just received a text from Sprint that since I bought a discounted device on the Sprint Family Share Pack, I will be charged $40 a month for a line access charge. It had been $15 on this line with my old S4. At the point of sale, I asked the Best Buy rep whether there would be any change to my plan, and although I was dubious, I was specifically told there wouldn't be. The higher line access charge isn't surprising me at all. It seemed strange that I could buy the device from BB at $199 but the monthly payments when buying from Sprint would have been $25. So either way, I'm still paying the extra $25 per month.

If the $100 gift card hadn't offset the $199 I'd probably be pretty pissed off right now. But the $99 difference seems like a small price to pay to NOT deal with my local Sprint stores. I had gone to three without getting a device before landing at BB (stay out of the Central Ave., Yonkers, NY store by the Kohl's - anything other that repairs is a nightmare there).

The $199 is the 2 year contract price, so you signed a 2 year contract? That's why the line fee went up. You should really return it and do easy pay. For the next 24 months you will be paying an extra $25/month on line access fees = $600 plus your $199 up front = $799.
On easy pay you go back to $15 line access and you just pay the $25 easy pay charge for the phone and no upfront $199 so you save that money.

I just tried calling Best Buy and asked the rep if I can buy the phone outright and leave the store without unactivating it. The rep said, yes. I explained to her how I was told how my local BB tried to tell me I have to activate it in store and she said they were wrong.

I'm going back to BB tonight to see what happens. Not sure if I'm going to the one that's given me all these problems or if I'll drive the extra 20mins to a different one and try my luck there. Either way, what hassle this has been.

Anyone pick up the black leather variant at best buy yet?
My preorder is no go so far.

So update...my preorder is nowhere to be found and they can't give me an eta. The point of a preorder is being missed here. I'm considering canceling and forgo the $100 if I can find black leather at att.

I am lucky in that I have a good friend who works at Best Buy in the Geek Squad and one of my best friends is the manager at one of our local AT&T stores. I preordered my black leather G4 from BB so I could get that $100 GC. Yesterday my best friend at AT&T called me and said he got one black leather G4 in and asked if I wanted it. So I called my BB friend and she checked their computer and all it says is they have 1 black leather G4 allocated to them but there's no indication of when it will ship. I am very close to going into my friend's AT&T store and cancelling the BB bull**** order.

So there are black leather g4s in stock at every att store near me. There are none at any dfw bb supposedly.
So between att and bb this is a horrible idea to announce preorder and to have this situation.
