Buyers Remorse. Anyone starting to get it?

I feel like so many people get caught up in this fanboy stuff, they end up swearing such allegiance to a brand that they become almost resentful of people who dare mention any of its faults.

Welcome to the forums. This is quite common around here, and there is truth to your statement.

OTOH:
- There are plenty of folks who do nothing but complain, or try to make some small issue and make it sound like the end of the world.
- Even if the products can be made better because of complaints here, they probably won't be ( I don't see removable batteries or IR blasters coming back to Google phones any time soon). So there is sometimes a fine line between stating one's concern about a missing feature - which should be encouraged - and incessant whining about that missing feature.

I have it preordered. I honestly hate buying a $1000 phone outright, but until they expand their carriers beyond Verizon (which I'm guessing would be about the Pixel 3 or 4 right? If we go by how it worked with the iPhone), I'm okay with it just because I'm absolutely done with the laggy and sluggish performance of Samsung phones.

The thing that I will miss the most having a Pixel is the carrier support with warranties and insurance plans. When you get your phone from a carrier, and something goes wrong with it, you give them a call, and they send you a new one. When you buy outside insurance, you end up having to send your phone in, have that whole waiting period, etc. I'll definitely be crossing my fingers that nothing happens to my Pixel.

What I will say is, if you already have a OP5, and you're not a stickler for a 18:9 display or waterproofing, I'd definitely say just keep rolling with the OP5. I love the company, I love the performance of OnePlus phones, and the 3T downright outpaced the original Pixel, I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 or the 6 do the same with the Pixel 2.

If the product that you're buying needs to be better than you're buying the wrong product. I don't buy anything that's not acceptable and am well aware of what I'm buying before I purchase.
Well, two things.

1). I wasn't referring to people who are buying it, I'm referring to the people who aren't buying it for aforementioned reasons.

2). Everything could be better at all times. We're constantly limited by the market and the technical developments at the time. One day of battery life is great, but wouldn't two be better? Wouldn't it be great if your phone could wirelessly charge from 10 feet away? Heck, maybe some people would even prefer an IP-68 rating to -67, or 6GBs of RAM instead of 4GB. Constantly wanting more, and wanting a better product is a great thing. It puts pressure on the developers of those products to provide better value for their consumers.

No remorse here. I have two lines. One for iPhone and one for Android. I've been with Samsung for awhile and HTC 10 for a few months. I wanted to try Android unskinned for once. The fact it has dual front facing stereo speakers and a promising camera experience is icing on the cake. Unlocked Pixel Panda on pre-order for late November delivery.

Anyway, I've since purchased a Note 8, and today for the first time (actually 14 days today since I bought it), I felt a little weird about buying it. But, If I don't leave the house before 20:00 today, I'll be keeping it :)

I have a note edge. Never figured out why I needed a stylus.

I've never had a vanilla Android device

You should try one. I didn't think skins were a big deal, either, until I went vanilla. It's really very refreshing, and I think a lot of people would be surprised at now nice Android is when it's not full of a bunch of gunk put in there by an OEM who skins it.

I like the car analogy. Buying an upper end phone is like buying a car. It's commercially viable only because of financing and trade in values. Providing trade ins, financing, and lease options keep carriers relevant as equipment vendors.

No regrets at all. I am excited to be getting my Pixel 2 XL and I will probably love it like I do my Nexus 6... It's all good!

I haven't had so much "remorse" as I am just a flip flop. I am an admitted Apple fan, usually, but their handling of the iPhone 8 and X have made me mad. I was all set to get the X before the announcement, thinking the leaks would be less than 100% correct, but after that I was convinced that this was the year to skip the iPhone. I got the Note 8 and, while it is a fantastic phone, it is not for me. I had the Pixel last year and it was my favorite phone by far last year. The camera was amazing, battery was better than my iPhone and vanilla Android is a revelation compared to TouchWiz or whatever they call it now. Now though, after holding the iPhone 8, playing with one for a minute, and then seeing the actual size of the X (friend has a case for his already) I am not as convinced as I was. FaceID to me is a joke of a feature but is it? Apple always does this, comes out with something people know they're going to hate and it ends up being a great new feature. My biggest problem is storage and price, the X is $1200 for the 256gb, which is the one I would be getting, and the Apple Watch (almost a necessity for me now) is LTE only for Stainless Steel models. I flip back and forth but I think I will end up sticking it out with the Pixel, at least until the X is in stores and I can hold one. Then I may change my mind.

I ended up cancelling. For the money I would want this for 3 years minimum. Next year they will probably add support for TMobiles 600mhz band and bump up to 6gb of ram. I would have been like f*** I should have waited.

You could always buy the Pixel 2 and then sell it if u decide to go with the iPhone X, and I would imagine you'll sell it easily and for a good price.

As far as FaceID, other Android phones have done this before and it hasn't been a "great new feature" to most. I'm sure Apple fanboys will sing it's praises, but Apple could do no wrong in their eyes. And a Pixel 2 XL 128 gb, is $949 +tax. That's $250 less than the iPhone, essentially 20% cheaper than the X... that's pretty significant. And its only 256gb vs 128gb, but you get the google photo storage for free with Android.

Obviously I prefer Android, always have, always will, but just my thoughts.

Ask yourself how much you will like having to hold your phone at an angle that can scan your face before then having to swipe up on the screen just to unlock it. In fact, try walking around and doing that and compare how much you like doing that compared to how you might walk around and unlock your phone by just scanning a fingerprint.

Maybe it won't bother you, but maybe it will.

What I know is that back when I had a Galaxy Nexus, the ability to scan my face to unlock was a fun trick, but it was also totally impractical when it came to how I regularly use my phone. So I never used it.

It's not that simple

It is fairly simple. It's just a matter of giving up some features if you want the V30.

There are a lot of good phones out there. Three things I really wanted this time were front facing stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0, and water proofing. The pure android and Project Fi are interesting bonuses that I want to try out.

There was a phone 3 years back when I bought my current phone that had front facing speakers. However, it was not highly rated in other aspects so I ended up with a note instead.

I normally use bluetooth speakers but they are a good option to have when bluetooth speakers and headphones are not an option. (as long as they sound halfway decent at medium volume)

Or giving some up if you go with the Pixel 2. Wireless charging? Headphone jack? Great DAC? Dual cameras?

If I was another user who preferred those things, I'd be "giving up some features" if I went with the Pixel 2. It works both ways, and it's a individual preference. As you can see it's not exactly simple ..
