Buying a Google Pixel Fold now...

Eldest niece wants a new phone...

She's got up to £800 for the handset and is really interested in the Pixel Fold as her Samsung tablet is next to useless (she has my old M1 iPad Pro too which she uses for her studies etc)

It'll be replacing her Pixel 5...

She's not interested in an iPhone; but wants a tablet/phone in one so she can read her books and watch the usual Netflix/Disney etc

I'm biased as I have one and bloody love it...

But would buying one now make sense seeing as there 'could be' a Pixel Fold 2 due out sometime soon?

Thinking of an as new/opened/never used example off trusted sellers on eBay UK c£700 - leaves her with £100 for a case/screen protectors/charging stand etc

I would pick one up if I got the right deal for sure ...I will be jumping in on the Pixel Fold 2 but thinking release is a ways to go

I am probably biased, too. I really do love it. I open the screen more and more. Yes, it could be thinner and lighter but not sure how they will accomplish that until atomic batteries allow paper thin batteries that weigh very little.

But only she can determine if it suits her needs. Has she had an opportunity to really use it. Good Uncle that you are - loan her yours for a day or two.

With the "success" of this model, I really don't see them rushing out another upgraded Pixel Fold anytime soon. Have there really been any interesting rumors? And then the price will be steep again. What would they change - a better processor? If they go Samsung dimensions, I would not be the least interested in it. Better multitasking or side-by-side stuff should be attainable with software/firmware I'd guess. (edited to add: I gather that the newest Android Beta release has some kind of side-by-side pairing options.)

I have no idea of a fair price at this point either on this side or your side of the pond.

I would do but the lil lady is at the other end of the country and mines my 'work phone' so I'm on it all day/every day etc

She's home this weekend though; so we're going to pop up and see her and her folks on Sunday; I'll sit down with her then to see what she wants

They all want new phones and I'm the 'go to' gadget guru - apart from her little sister (18) who's already got a 14 Pro Max; they're all on old Samsungs. So they'll be getting told to buy Pixel phones ASAP haha

Exactly my thoughts... I'll see what she says on Sunday and if she's happy I'll get it ordered for her and she can do me a bank transfer; I'll get it delivered to me so I can install the screen protector/case etc & then ship it off to her next week...

Deal done... She's popped round with her sister as a surprise (lovely to see them both but they've eaten my cake so I sent them packing)... Haha not really; but they did eat my cake! Pfft...

The bigg'un has taken my Pixel Fold; I'll have the new one I've just ordered from the same seller on eBay I bought mine Christmas last year (new Spigen case, screen protector and camera lens protector ordered on Amazon UK also)

I've re-set it for her and it's transferred what's needed from her Pixel 5 in no time; she'll sort the rest at home

Put my business SIM into my Pixel 4XL for now and that'll do the job nicely...

Just a damned shame you can't have an Apple watch without an iPhone...! You'd think they'd sort the tech out now so that they can with with whatever existing Apple device you have (in my case M2 Mac Mini Pro, M1 MBA, M1 Mac Mini etc etc etc...)

There is; the youngest niece is a mean baker; so they're back Sunday and will come with cake (and ginger biscuits)

And for me to install the Spigen screen protector to her IP14PM - god know what she's done to the current one. But the EZ fit will soon have it sorted

Replacement Fold with me and just setting it up now; new Spigen EZ screen protector & camer lens protector fitted and sat in its Spigen Armor case to protect the spine as well...

Is it sad I'm excited to be setting up exactly the same phone as the one I let go yesterday haha
