Buying a New Phone thinking Between some choices want opinions

My wife and I currently have blackbery curve's and dont like that we get emails like 7-8 hours late texts/picture mails with delays and my wife's phone recently had a error and her entire phone book had to erase and got restored from mine.

We are thinking of getting Android's as replacements and she wants one with a physical keyboard.

I got for her the Droid1 and i am thinking of getting the same for myself.
(we are currently in contract and buying off of ebay as buying from "big Red" would be $500+ each... no)
Question:
are the big differences between droid1/2 the speed of the chip going from 600mhz>1ghz and the onboard memory.

I can just get a 32gb microsdhc card and use that for the droid 1. will the clockspeed just make a difference in how many apps open at once or is really detrimentally slower?

the droid 2 is a solid upgrade over the droid 1, though the 1 does have its merits as well. the droid 2 has a better keyboard, is a bit faster, and has more memory for apps. that said, a sticking point for some people on the droid 2 is that it has the motorola blur UI on the device. blur is not bad by any means, but many people prefer a stock android UI, which the droid 1 has.

i owned a droid 1, and loved it. and even though it doesnt have as fast a processor, its still a pretty darn fast device in its own right. for me, it comes down to whether or not you care about having the blur UI or not. i can tell you for me personally, if i were given a choice between the 2 phones, i would go with the droid 1, but i also like hacking and flashing roms, and the droid 1 is a lot easier to do that kind of stuff on. i would do some research and see which will be a better fit for you. i would also swing by the droid 2 forums to ask some questions of people that are better versed with the droid 2

Welcome, Dee. I haven't compared to the new gen of Droids (X & 2), but I just picked up a Droid OG (1) today and so far have been happy. It's an inexpensive way to get in to the android goodness with a solid device, and without contract issues. If you get a Droid on the (fairly) cheap, you can still make the jump when you can get a subsidized on-contract phone again.

well i was able to haggle with guy on craigs list for a droid 1 for $90 and bought one off of ebay for $149. since our contract doesnt expire(new every 2) till 9/25/2011 we didnt like the blackberries and got newer phones.

Question.

can the moto blur(?) be installed to Droid 1 with a hacked rom?

not full-on motoblur, but sometimes rom developers will incorporate features of other UI's into their roms. there are a ton of rom options available for the original droid, so there should be plenty for you to choose from if you go that route

IIRC, memory really limits the number of open apps. Clock speed will affect responsiveness.
