I have an upgrade soon and I want to renew my contract with at&t. As you may know an upgrade means you pay the "subsidized" price of the phone which is usually drastically cheaper than off contract or unlocked.
So will I be able to buy a Nexus 4 subsidized with at&t? It seems like it would be a waste of an upgrade if I couldn't since I'm renewing my contract anyway.

So far T-Mobile is the only carrier to offer the phone with a subsidized price. At $300 that's only 100 more than the subsidized price and u could keep your upgrade for something better or use your upgrade for something like the iPhone 5 then sell it on eBay for $700+ and then buy the off contract n4 and have money left over

AT&T will not subsidize this phone. Ever.

They don't want phones that arent LTE, and Google doesn't wanna deal with carrier demands and changes.

Darn.
I guess I'll have to go with the HOX+ or until I see something else that hasn't been revealed yet.

Just because you can't buy it on contract doesn't mean you can't buy it... $299/$349 in the play store unlocked is a fantastic deal and not at all unreasonable. The phone works fine on AT&T.

And as the above poster noted, you could use that upgrade to buy an iPhone 5 or SGS3 and sell it for $300+ of profit.

Ya personally I think the quad core with 2gb of ram with 720p display is almost going to be the plateau for hardware. Maybe 1080p screens but then they need to work on making things more efficient and making the OS use the full potential of the hardware. If I was u I would just buy off contract and wait till something really special comes along. With that hardware and the updates the nexus lines get it keeps them relevant for much longer than a Samsung,HTC, or Motorola device
