Buying from Best Buy

For the most part I know what the difference is in terms of buying from Best Buy as opposed to an official retail store for the carrier.

I also know if I buy from Amazon or Best Buy or anyone like that, that I have in a sense a 2nd contract for a shorter period that says if I make changes to my plan that I would have to pay a fee.

My question is would things like adding the Employee discount that the carrier offers constitute a change in the plan or is this something that is excluded from that clause? Can I add the various employee discounts (ie military) to my account when creating it at a place like Best Buy or Radio Shack?

I have a co-worker who wants to enter the Smartphone world, but he would like to pay as little as possible up front for the phone.

Hmm, I bought my Incredible from Amazon, and have changed the plan twice at a retail store; and haven't had any issues with fees, services, etc. They also added my law enforcement discount for me almost three weeks after I bought the phone online.

It would appear I was given false information. Actually went and looked at the terms/conditions on Amazons site and all it states is that if you cancel your service prior to having 181 consecutive days of service it is a $250 ETF.

Nothing about changing the plan so I guess I was incorrectly given the information by someone else.
