Hi,

Im thinking of buying an S6 Edge, it would be SIM free as it would work out cheaper for me, I currently have a Tesco Mobile Sim.

I have family in canada due to come over and was thinking of buying a SIM free phone out there and having them bring it over. Few questions though:

1) Any idea if the phone would be unlocked if I buy it SIM Free from someone like Videotron or Rodgers?
2) Will my UK Sim work in it?
3) Any other issues I should be aware of when buying a phone from abroad?

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy an S6 Edge SIM free as it would be cheaper for me in the long run. Prices are pretty expensive here in UK so I have looked abroad.
I have family coming over from Canada where phone prices are significantly less, without a contract. I'm looking for some advice whether this would be a good idea though.

Will buying from somewhere like Videotron without a contract be an unlocked phone that my Tesco Mobile SIM can work with or will I need to get it unlocked?
Is there anything else I should be aware of if I buy abroad?

Typically if you buy an unlocked non-carrier branded phone you should be able to use it without issue. Especially phones out of the EU/UK markets. One thing to check is the GSM/LTE bands on the phone and those supported by the carriers you will be using. I have an international unlocked ZenFone2 and I have no issues with it in the US getting full LTE on AT&T.
