BxActions questionable activity

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I haven't gotten a response from the developer, I have also posted on third xda thread as well.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I'm not saying is wrong but I have the app installed with secure start up and it requires me to put my pin in.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I've been using BxActions since my S8+ my secure start still works. Maybe when you give it the initial Admin privileges the system has to disable that security in order to allow it. Once done setting it up it's just a matter of re-enabling it.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I'm going off memory, but I believe it's the device admin apps settings. it happens to me also, has on many phones and many apps. for some reason it shuts off secure start up.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

And that's what I meant, it's probably related to granting permissions rather than something the app is doing.

This app isn't listed as a device admin app when it is installed.

It doesn't required device admin access, when I go to that page in settings it's not listed.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I have discovered what the issue is. According to bxaction app you cannot have the bixbi button and secure start enable at the same time so it turns secure start off. I should have read that when giving the permissions that is my bad. Here is the issue, after you select ok it brings up a page to disable secure start but not the one from settings. It also allows for the use of biometrics to bypass your pin to turn off secure start. From what I understand no security setting on Android can be disable by intelligent scan or finger print or Iris recognition. You have to use your pin code and put it in. I figured the page that came and asked for my pin/biometrics was to allow the app accessibility access and to not disable the secure lock. No where on that page does it say anything about secure lock.

There is still the issue of biometrics being able to alter security options on the phone. I have been successfull in informing the developer via the Google+ page and he is now aware of this security issue.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

Can you tell me what "secure start" is? Is it the same as "Secure Startup?" I have no problem having Bixby and Secure Startup enabled at the same time.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

I simply have never had any of these issues. I set my phone to auto restart once a week at 4am each Monday and each time I wake up afterwards and it asks me for my passcode. And I've been using bxActions without issues for the last 6 months.

This screen shot is directly from the app when giving it permissions while having secure startup enabled when setting up bxactionScreenshot_20180916-162205_Settings.jpg

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

Mystery solved. See? No nefarious intent from BxActions.

Re: Beware-BxActions questionable activity

The more I dug into it the more I learned. Any app that requires accessibility permission will disable secure start when it is active. It happened when I caved and set up Nova's gestures. It's a know issue with Android and 3rd party developers.
