Bye G3, hello S6 Edge

I didn't mean old technology like its a dinosaur, I was implementing that all new phones should use Super AMOLED screens instead of lcd

Strongly disagree. In looking with my eyes instead of staring at specs, I like the screen of my G3 better than the screen on my nifty new Note 4 Edge. Don't put your opinion out there as an objective fact. It is not. Nor is mine. As to how a display should look - that is a matter for the buyer to determine. And here's a flash - my old MaxxHD does everything I need it to do and it, by technology terms. IS a dinosaur. But oddly, it's still in rotation because it DOES do the job and the battery is better than anything else I won including the Droid Turbo. Fact is, most changes now are going to be evolutionary.

How are you guys doing..
I have a LG G3, and it's great in my opinion... The specs are very important to me, as for the qualify (casing) of the phone. In my opinion, it all depends on what you guys use the phone for..... Love my phone, if any upgrade, it will be the LG G4.

The G3 is fast, has a great display, excellent camera, good sound, great radios - what's not to like? And when I move to the next phone in rotation (yes, I have far too many phones - it's a hobby) I always miss the rocker on the back :)

That being said, while I do own Samsung as well (Note Edge) that S6 Edge is very cool looking. I don't think the edge display is particularly useful (compared to the Note 4 Edge display) but so far neither is exactly mind blowing. They mostly do exactly that - look cool. But man, that plus performance is a good combination. I just wish it had a few hundred more mAhrs in the tank.

You made the wrong choice bud right when the g4 is coming out you go to a S6.Good luck!

Non removeable battery, no sd card slot, smaller screen...

Choo choo, I am hopping on the train to nopeville.

Also, switching phones so quickly is not an option with my budget.

And VERY difficult to repair a broken screen/digitizer. Even worse than the old S3 which was $$$ to fix.

Trading in my G2 for a G3, tomorrow. G Flex 2 is a no go, as i don't like phones that are curved. Same goes for the G4(even though the curve is minimal). Having a leather back on any phone seems silly to me, as you can buy a leather back, in any color, for any phone. G3 for now, and let's see what the G5 will look like.:p

I notice that the price difference between the 32 and 128GB versions of the S6 is about 4 times the price of a 128GB SD-card. That's what it costs to lose the card slot!

I'll never understand why it became acceptable to charge $100 for 16GB of storage or even 32GB. Maybe back in the early days of smartphones it made more sense, but the cost of flash memory continues to go down more and more. At least with the Droid Turbo they gave you an aesthetic change.

Tech pundits and writers constantly note how they don't need storage cuz cloud etc. etc. but these are people who either don't have limited data plans or their plans are paid for by their employer or by the provider of their demo units.
The biggest issue for me is the battery - again because it's not sufficiently big enough on its own. I like the S6 screen and camera from what I've heard, but the battery is a no go.

It's not a huge upgrade but still a upgrade nonetheless. The processor & specs are somewhat future proof because they are 64 bit. And the screen has 577 pixels with a super AMOLED display, where as the G3 only has around 510 pixels and has the old LCD technology. the battery also might be smaller on the s6 but the processor makes it run more efficient so it's going to be better than the g3 even though it's smaller. The Snapdragon 801 in the g3 struggles with power consumption + performance trying to push that 2k screen and tasks.

You said the S6 Edge has a better pixel density than the G3. Well of course it will its a smaller display. And you already know that the S6 Egde has a better battery life than the G3? Sorry to disappoint but its sub-par.

I can agree. I've used both but haven't used the newest Samsung SAMOLED panels (which seem to be better looking than the older ones) as much so my opinion may change. I prefer the look of LCD on a smartphone.

mAh for mAh, the S6 easily beats the G3 in battery life.. But I'm disappointed in the manufacturer putting in such a small battery. Although this makes sense as they can cut costs while selling you a more expensive "Active" model (or something like that) with a larger battery in it. Either way I haven't seen any battery tests yet to compare with the G3. Most of the G3 battery tests are running stock firmware with no tweaks which makes it very hard to compare. You can get a lot out of battery life by tweaking, and every phone if different in that respect.

Where have you seen or even heard the S6 beating the G3 in battery life? Everywhere I've seen people complain about the S6 not reaching 4hrs. SOT while the G3 can manage that.

I agree that its preference... If you look at this side by side comparison (attachment) of the S6 edge and the G3 it is completely clear who the winner is though, The G3 looks yellowish as the edge is more of a vivid white. That screenshot was a raw untouched picture. Like I mentioned earlier the colors are just richer and the blacks are deeper with the super amoled. That's why all the new TV's come with that technology as well. The really only thing that matters is that you love your own phone. lol

Well actually the G3 depicts more true to life color considering you can see that the table behind him wasn't purely white as shown on the Amoled phone. You shouldn't be even comparing the G3's screen if you're trying to have a Amoled vs. LCD battle. You're putting the best against the mediocre. HTC and Apple are who you want to look at for leading LCD technology. Specifically the M8 and the iPhone 6+ displays.

I never said the S6 beats the G3 in battery life. The G3 has a larger battery and would obviously beat the S6.

Not for any phone. Not everyone has the market share that Apple and Samsung have. And its not for sure that the G4 will have a curve wait for it to be announced first.

Uhhh. Read your comment again dude.

I guess you misread my original statement.

I said mah for mah the S6 is more power efficient than the G3. And it stands to reason. The screen is smaller, the SoC is more power efficient, and it has a power superior amoled screen.

However the battery itself is 15% smaller than the G3. From what I saw, the S6 has gotten more than 4 hours of SOT, and that is stock without tweaks. If anything, it will reach stock SOT of the G3, which means, mah for mah it beats the G3.

Actually, the review of the S6 and S6 Edge, right here on Android Central, said that the battery life was not too good.

:)

OK, got my G3 today, and it's sweet. Set-up was easy, as i had the G2. Only one question...I accidentally deleted that round clock on the lock screen. I can't find it in widgets. Anyone know how to get it back? Thanks.:p

I don't know if you can actually add it, but it is the default lockscreen widget - so if you delete any other lockscreen widgets and turn off and on the screen it should come back for you.

* just did this myself and it worked.
