cable gets hot while charging

Some times I notice the micro USB of the cable gets hot when charging the phone, & the connector on the phone does also, so I unplug it let it cool down then plug it back in & no problems after that. Why is this?

Defective cable, plug, liquid damage on plug or bad phone. Many reasons.
