Calendar Question: Events vs. Tasks

Just picked up my Droid X yesterday...love it so far! I am a heavy calendar user and I'm using the stock calendar. As I'm entering my schedule through my laptop on to the google calendar, I notice you have the choice of either entering the item as an "Event" or a "Task". I tried both and noticed that all "Events" sync to my phone, but the "Tasks" don't show up. Does anyone know the difference between these two and how to make "Tasks" show up on my phone? Thanks!
