AT&T admits to slowing down the Motorola Atrix and HTC Inspire

For those of you who have slower than 4G like speeds?

Well the proof is in the pudding.

To think AT&T were actually selling these phones to you all under the 4G moniker. Give AT&T hell!

I personally would ask for a months (or as long as you had your Inspire) worth of credit.

AT&T has admitted that it clipped the wings of its 4G network and is the reason that two recently released phones, the Motorola Atrix 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G, have dismal upload speeds. Carrier reps on Facebook have promised that AT&T will fix the problem with a software update to the phones in April after many complaints were made to the Better Business Bureau. :-!

4G isnt even out yet, so complaining wont do any good. at&t have also said there will be software updates to the phones. And really, how much do you UPLOAD that this is such a big issue. So it took you 6 seconds to upload a photo instead of 3 seconds.

4G LTE isnt even due out for anyone yet. I know the chicago market is due sometime during the summer supposably. But as for the rest of the nation, i am not sure the footprint. But even the Inspire 4G and the Atrix 4G wont run off the LTE networks since they dont have LTE antennas.

I am on wifi at home and at work most of the time so the down/up load speeds are not that important to me. When I am on the network it does take a little bit but I'm never like com' on. I bought the phone cause I feel it is an awesome phone with all of the features I was looking for. The phantom "4G" was never a deal breaker for me when choosing the Inspire. I would still pick the Inspire, being 3G, even if the other phones were true 4G. Just my opinion. I am thinking of calling At&t to see if I can squeeze anything out of them. I don't think they will but it won't hurt.

Funny you use a photo as an example? Why didn't you use an example like?
Watching YouTube HD without any buffering? Or almost instant loading of webpages ? Or downloading a 400 MB movie file in about 15-25 minutes(which I do regularly)? When referring to uploading time?

Which is one of the main differences I see when using 7-11 MB download with Wimax compared to 1-1.5 MB download.speeds with regular 3G.

What I'm try to convey here is that AT&T should have came out from the beginning and announced that their HSUPA technology was disabled instead of giving you all the run around?

At least Verizon and Sprint had the decency to let their customers know where 4G was and wasn't deployed.

You as AT&T loyal customers should be in the know.

And oh to answer your question? I upload an average of about 6-9 GB a month with a high of 15 GB's.

I used UPLOADING a photo, because only upload speeds are gimped right now. The download speeds aren't affected in anyway shape or form. I think you dont know the difference between upload and downloads. Watching youtube has nothing to do with UPLOAD speeds, only downloads. You answered you own question to me and didn't even realize it. And dealing with this every day, I highly doubt you UPLOAD anywhere near 6-9 gigs a month with a high of 15. If so, you need a laptop, not a phone. At&t's has not advertised that they (we) have 4G available anywhere at the moment. Only says getting faster with 4G.

True... LTE for AT&T isn't deployed yet.
However,

AT&T has touted that their HSUPA technology
as having 4G like speeds? That's my point

Lte and Wimax
has considerably faster download and upload
Speeds than our 3G offerings.

And so far as it seems HUSPA is disabled for the most part?

And trying to cover it up? I feel bad for those of you who bought an Inspire or an Atrix expecting a nice upgrade from your previous phones? only to be disappointed

yeah, the news broke out the week the phone was released.

I was using your term of upload. I assume you meant download though. Because you stated waiting 3 seconds to 6 makes no difference to you.

And yes I do know download and upload work /operate separately of one another.
Yes I do tether once in a while not a whole bunch.

You have absolutely no clue of how much Data I use if your assumption to think other wise?

Sorry but with an unlimited data plan..I Can surely say I use my Evo as much as I can without worrying.

In fact I have used over 3GB in just 5 days last month. Impossible no. I simultaneously download 3-4 movies
At 300-450 MB each to watch them later. That along with
with YouTube, surfing the net,Pandora, gps, sprint tv,video chatting with friends it all adds up. If you like i'll even give you the site I download movies from? So you can see for yourself how big a single movie File is?

Also,Drop by the Thunderbolt section of this forum.

There is a lot of members that has hit multiple GB usage in the few weeks since the TB came out.

I tried and At&t acted like I was the first one to ask about it.

some people are so damn immature and feel so entitled. Just return the phone and stop crying about it. Like the previous post said news broke on this when the phone first came out. You have 30 days to return the phone. Secondly you act as if at&t was the first company to advertise a 4g phone before 4g is launched. Sprint advertised it almost 2 yrs ago when they only had 4g in Baltimore.

Being impartial I have to agree with Dilrod in saying I call complete and utter BS on this post. There is absolutely NO WAY that you upload 6-9GB on average per month from your mobile device. You probably download/upload that much combined but no way you upload that much. Also the examples you used such as watching YouTube videos in HD is an example of downloading not uploading so like Dilrod said you seem clueless. Not saying you are clueless just saying the examples you used as uploading are absolutely terrible.

*Anxiously awaiting verbal attack* ;-)

I sure wish I knew everything. If Ihop would have took the time to read my first post he would have saw I am no complaining at all . I was on the phone with tech support form one of my kids phones and ask what was up with the 4G deal. They never heard a thing about it's sure I bet.

I wasn't disappointed at all when I bought my Inspire, but perhaps that's because I cane from a Blackberry that was ridiculously slow compared to this phone.

I've uploaded plenty od photos to Facebook and a few videos to YouTube since owning the Inspire. It may take a little longer than it should, but it's still faster than any other phone I've used.

As for false advertising, I don't know about that. The AT&T commercials I've seen have only said "getting faster with 4G." I've yet to see one that touts having the largest 4G network or anything like that. Besides, if we're getting updates, I don't see why it's such a big deal, unless you're constantly uploading large files.

Exactly. And I work for at&t and I have never (in 4 years) seen anyone use more than maybe 5-6 gigs of data. Show me a print out of your data. It isnt entirely impossible, but very improbable. If you do that much data, a mobile device shouldnt be what your using.

Dilrod,

Per Sprint: Data usage is calculated by the size of the file sent or received and is charged on the basis of your plan allowance.

I posted my current usage in the above reply(I still have 9 days left).

Now...could it be because AT&T has a data cap?

And Sprint Doesn't?

As the reason you don't see really high data usage?

Look you point is well taken. And If I was with AT&T?

I'd probably be on a WiFi connection 98% of the time?

Since I got my Evo? Seriously... I probably used WiFi maybe a handful
of times at most.

Hawaii is really blessed to be blanketed with really good 4G coverage. Especially, on the Island of Oahu.

Further more...

There is a member here that hit 54GB in a month I believe? Or some crazy number like that?

So why is it me using 6-9GB a month so far fetched?

People in the Thunderbolt section has hit multiple GB in the few weeks that they have had their TB's.

With Verizon's LTE being so insanely fast,
I bet you will see guys regularly topping what I average.

From personal experience, with faster internet speeds(4G) I consume data at a much, much, much higher rate than when I used to have a blackberry on 3G.

I don't think I have ever cracked a GB on my BB in a month? or even close to a
GB?

For me, by far,my biggest usage is downloading movies and watching them later.

I normally download 2-3(sometimes more) movies a day to my SD card.

Also, with pretty good throughput I'm getting I can download 2-3 movies
simultaneously in about 20 minutes.(I don't want to even think of doing this with Sprints's 3G)

Dilrod, for further proof.. this is the website I download the movies from.

Watch Movies Online Free - Just Added

Best thing? it is for free(that's why I download so much).

You can go see for Yourself? Each movie is about 350MB to 500MB in size.

I think Avatar was the biggest so far?

Do the math 3 movies should take me over a GB no problem.

However, this has been a challenging month for me at Home(repairs) and at work.

So yes this month I'll probably get only 5-6GB?

LOL, I just realized after buying the phone that 90% of at&t's network is transmitting H+ but only 5% of their network supports the backend to make it work at proper speeds. So I am still getting 3G speeds until the 1st of the year when they are supposed to upgrade my market in Arizona.

I have been trying to do this to get some movies on my phone. Do you download them straight to the phone?
