Called Htc Today

Well in all honesty I think Verizon's phone selection is some of the best. The issue now is the timing. They've known for a while that LTE was coming so they've held off on having manufacturers making new 3G phones so it's just that they've had the same phones for a long time. So again, it's just the transition that's really hurting right now. Once everything is settled and the LTE phones start rolling in, I think Verizon will once again have some of the best selections of phones around.

See I disagree. I think VZW's Selection of Phones is terrible.. but the phones they do offer are Quality devices.

just my opinion.

I agree as well. I came over from Alltel. In my opinion, VZW/Alltel never focused on their handsets and made their way on their cellular coverage which has been superior. They would get the most popular phones released on other networks a year later. Almost they let the other carriers go first with the new handsets to see how they performed. JMO

Well Alltel didn't become Verizon until fairly recently (in terms of acquisitions anyway), so Alltel probably didn't have the selection of phones that all of the other carriers did.

If you're talking sheer volume, then okay, maybe Verizon doesn't have the most, but I said best. Anyway, it's hard to have the most when you have Sony Ericsson and Nokia focusing on GSM phones. Which in all honesty may be a good thing because SE seems to have the same issues with updates that Samsung has (if not worse) and while Nokia is getting better, they are still known as a lower level phone.

I agree with you there. Sony Erickson and Nokia never really took off. Nokia was cool for awhile with their small handsets but that was with Alltel. I have not see a Sony Erickson phone that I thought was worth owning.

If we are talking handsets v service, I put service before the handsets and that is why I am sticking with Verizon. But having said that, I am not disappointed with Verizon's handsets either.

I'm very good with conspiracy theories. I have the mind of a devil. So my take on tiered data is like this:

Seeing this extraordinary interest in the Bolt, Verizon Wireless got greedy and decided they can get away with roping the Bolt users into the tiered data plan as well even though it was not their original plan. So they put the Bolt launch on hold until they finalize the tiered data plan. Makes sense?

I've been thinking about this one and have a "what if?" which is the product of my hyperactive imagination:

What if VZW's parent company did a review and realized (near the last minute) that unlimited LTE would cut into the other subsidiaries land-line broadband? After all, if you live in a 4G area and use tethering, wouldn't that potentially be faster and cheaper than keeping home-based DSL or FiOS?

I could see corporate demanding a cost/benefit review study on this -- which would cause all kinds of schedule impacts -- leading us to today -- and it is not hard to imagine that nobody would have thought about this until buzz in the community through investment firm research fed back to the corporate types about their two main products potentially competing with one another -- land-line based broadband, and wireless broadband. [Edit: Okay, that's probably the longest run-on I've written in a while.]

(For the record I'm not in the telecom industry, so this can be filed in whatever circular dispenser you want.) :p

Unlimited isnt really. They'll cut you off if you abuse it.

I'd rather see them get LTE right before bringing out this phone. LTE has been running fine for laptop air cards, phone, MMS, SMS could be a whole different ball of wax.

I'd rather them get it sorted out, then come out with a 4G phone that doesn't really do 4G. Check out the Motorola Atrix forums and see how those guys feel about AT&T "4G."

LTE speeds are still victims of subscriber use. The tower can realistically handle only so many devices at one time let alone before the speeds start to degrade. I would happily take FIOS over 4G especially since I use MiFi 2200's at my house with 10GB plans. I live .5 miles from a Time Warner zone, but they won't install it unless I pay $25k for it. That's not going to happen.

4G is not nationwide yet on any service. Towers and equipment have to be upgraded, depending on customer demand. But it is spreading, albeit slowly.

Below is a copy of email I received after complaining to HTC about the lack of a release date for the thunderbolt sounds like they are saying verizon may be adding software to have it operate on their network better.

Dear J,

I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed in the upcoming release date of the HTC Thunderbolt.

J, it is at the provider's discretion when they release a device. They may be adding more software to the device to better configure to their network.

We apologize J, for any inconvenience that you may have experienced.

Why don't you guys relax and stop reading every rumor that is posted on the internet. Verizon has NEVER said a release date or if it's even coming in march. Verizon may have the phones, but until they feel it's met everyone expectations, why should they rush it. Why rush a unfinished product or a product that doesn't work. I too am excited for the TB and i am even a little upset, because im going to PAX this week in Boston where LTE is and i was hoping to use it. Either way, people need to stop getting angry and threatening Verizon.
