calls in/out no matter what the ringer settings are 100% silent

Hi everyone, I've been trolling the forums with anticipation for this launch.

I will not reveal my source for the phone. It wasn't some playing stupid scenario and tricking a third party vendor into making a sale... The entire phone activated on site with ease and was tied into an existing account. I know there may be doubters, so I will take a picture in a couple of hours once off work.

Everything had been working smoothly including 4g/3g hand offs, data speeds, active syncs etc... Actually everything is perfect except for one significant issue... Silent Calls.

I got the phone yesterday evening and made several calls in/out. No problems. Setup everything, no problems. Got the phone working with Ford sync to stream Pandora then it started. Nearly all my calls in/out no matter what the ringer settings or call settings are will be 100% silent. I noticed this was an issue in the past with android phones but possibly may have been corrected in 2.2 (not really sure?!).

I get one random call out with it working but it's a total minority. Pulling the batt hasn't done anything either.

If you are trying to get one, beware. There really may indeed be a reason for the delay... I'll be back soon posting more.

So here's what I just did:

-Factory reset
-Tried 2 calls out with no issues
-Then went forward with my google account
-Downloaded Pandora again
-Connected Sync w/ bluetooth
-While logging into my pandora account I received a call and it was silent...

Going to do another reset...

Is it going silent on bluetooth or is it doing it without bluetooth enabled? If you are using bluetooth to stream music it may be sending the call to the phone and not the bluetooth speaker. Under bluetooth settings make sure both audio and phone are checked when you long press whatever you are connected to. Sometimes when you pair it and play audio it will disable the phone.

Another factory reset with no luck... This time I called into it first thing. Rings and all upon answer, nothing.

Not a single setting was touched after the reset. Had a 4g connection and 3/4 bars.

I think I got the pattern down... And this is with a factory reset phone with the bare minimum in settings.

Reset and clean... I can make unlimited calls without any failure. Then once I receive a call the game's over. Regardless if I allow it ring out to VM, silence it, or answer it. After the one silent call comes in there's no calling out. There was one instance were I couldn't hang up on a silent call I was making. Then the call I noticed dropped and I had no mobile coverage. Once coverage came back I was able to make calls again. (Until the next call came in)

Completely intrigued as I can replicate this problem easily now.

Does this behave the same way when used in a different network coverage area? (I know it doesn't sound like a 4g/3g thing or related to towers, but it's good to eliminate factors, and I bet different code segments on the phone get executed for different tower configurations.)

You can disable and change network type under settings>wireless and network>mobile networks>system selection. Play around with that and see if it helps. Other than that I think there might have been an activation problem.

Bob,

I'm really considering this a possibility. The phone had good use in the suburbs about 20/30 miles out from where I work last night.

I get off of work in about 90 min so I'll know more then. I'm an IT developer so I'm completely drawn into finding a solution. I'd love to work it out all night but I think my wife would kill me. So we'll see...

EDIT: Moon... Already tried forcing CDMA with no luck. A reboot refreshes the ability to make calls, that is until I get a call...

Thats so odd. Its got to be a network related issue. You don't happen to have a pre-release model do you? Everyone I have talked to that has a retail released one has had no issues like this.

Hmmm. That's a bummer. I have had no problems.

Looking at my box right now: I510.ED1

Any other way to ID my release?

Same as me. It looks like Verizon has blocked activation of Charges at this point and that might have something to do with it.

I'm still doubting that possibility somewhat. Odd how it will take out the phone's ability to call upon receiving a call. Yet the second it drops network conn it once again allows outgoings.

Besides that everything else is working as expected or better...

I don't think they have actually blocked activations since I had one in my hands activated to my number earlier today. Problem was when I went to pay for it, it wasn't in the authorized retailer's system so they couldn't figure out how I could pay for it. After multiple phone calls to different reps and stores, I left with my Thunderbolt and the Charge was sitting on the desk with my name on it for when it actually is released.

So I just got home and over to some new towers... Nothing really new to report.

I can though call my cell from my home's traditional Jurassic phone line with no problems... The second I call it with my wife's cell it goes silent and kills outgoings as before.

Puzzled and perplexed, I'll post more as I continue to fiddle.

Anyone know if it's possible to re-activate through the phone's GUI?

Probably my final post for the night... If I call from a cell to my Charge it's completely silent. If I call from a landline the call works as it should. But I stand corrected, any future calls in/out from that point are silent until I reboot. The actions to make it occur are different but the description of what it seems like to the user sounds just like the old 2.1 issue with that old htc droid...

Night everyone.

Silent calls are indeed back for me. Returning my phone today for a new one...

Can replicate easily and will show on site.

hasn't happened to me a single time, and a million people have called my charge so far. sounds like a very rare and isolated issue.
