So I'm wondering what everyone else's camera does here. When I open my camera it shows a 2x indicating the zoom? But 1x zooms in even farther. Is this backwards or do I not understand what the 1x and 2x mean?

Mine does the same Budman40. I may be another person who doesn't understand. I read this about the camera. "Switch to 2x optical zoom: Using the digital zoom downgrades the quality, but the Note 8 has dual cameras to give you lossless 2x optical zoom through the second lens. Once you've opened the camera, you'll see a small 2x button on the right of the display. Tap this to switch lenses. Tap 1x to return to the normal camera." Seems reversed to me.

I guess I get it now. Whichever is showing that means touch it to go to that lens. So if it shows 2x, touching it will take you to 2x. Backwards to me but I think I get it now.

It shows 2x because that is what happens when you press it, it's a button to enable it. It's not displaying your current level of zoom, feels normal to me.

I wouldn't expect to press a 1x button to enable 2x zoom.

I can see it both ways but this implementation is different. Overlays typically tell you the current settings. Take flash for example. if you see a lightning bolt, that means flash is on. tapping it turns it off and it changes to the bolt with a line through it (or to auto flash). here, seeing a 2X doesnt indicate you're in zoom, so it doesnt quite fit with the rest of the overlays.

I'm coming from iPhone 7plus and in Note8 is backwards, is more confuse when after using the dual cameras on the iphone for almost a year

You've got to expect differences. If it wasn't different, Apple would sue them. Anytime you change platforms you'll have to adjust and not expect it to function the same.

I think a less confusing interface would show a two-position switch that you tap to toggle between the two settings.
