Having just read AC's latest GN review, I have a question re: the camera -

Will a third party camera app (ie, Camera Zoom, etc.) improve the quality of the pictures, or does this hardware build determine 100% the quality of the pix?

I always say the same thing about the camera. 99.9% of the population will not be held back by any limitations this camera has and the 0.1 % that would be held back carry a DSLR with them when they need to take photos that are needing a high quality picture.

With that said, I don't think software can do much except touch it up to appear better to the naked eye.

Excuses.

Very little can be done with software....it would be like you taking a pic then editing it in Photoshop, you can make it look nicer but it won't be better ie resolution, sharpness, etc.

That said the pics I've seen taken by it are very good. I couldn't imagine someone needing better quality. And if you do you are probably at an event of some sort and should have a real camera anyway.

I am not looking at this as a replacement for a point & shoot, but it is a point of comparison with other phones that I'm considering, namely the Rezound. It's one of many factors in my decision.

If you need a very good camera on a phone, don't get the Nexus. It's that simple. The Nexus has a decent camera with great software optimization. But phones that have a better camera will get ICS at some point. Remember that you're buying a phone...Not a camera. Pretty much all you should be using the phone camera for is uploading to Facebook and Google+ only.
