Camera app is laggy

I thought this was an isolated instance but I've now had this happen about 5-6 times and always with the worst timing.

What happens is I take the phone out to take a picture and it lags behind where the screen shows an image that might have been in front of it seconds ago. At that point I can't take a photo or have the phone respond to any screen inputs, I just have to wait.

After a few seconds it is fine but really frustrating as I will miss a shot I want to take.

Phone exhibits not lag at all in any other app, just the camera function. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried smart cleaning?

If you ever had a V20 or V10 ever, you'd know that the lag was much much worse on those phones. But I've seen the camera lag too. I wish LG did what Samsung does and keeps the Camera app always running in memory.

I have had the V10, V20 and now the V30 and don't notice any lag. I have the swipe up to open the camera with Nova prime and from a black screen it takes about 2 seconds for the camera to be open and ready for a picture.

I witnessed it occasionally. That lag turns up immediately after starting the camera app. If you point and click, you get a stutter and it takes up to two seconds to shoot (with your target probably already gone or at least out of focus). If you try filming after starting the camera, it takes up to two seconds until the camera starts rolling and then you have one or two more stutters before it runs smoothly. Those stutters are in the film as well.

This happened to me about 5 times now.

every 5 days or so I smart clean the phone, even though Android should take care of that itself. every two weeks or so I reboot the phone.
I never had to do this with my Nexus phones btw.

i feel lagging to while opening the camera apps for the first time. but for the second and more no lagging happens.

I did some more research and troubleshooting and found that this was also observed in the V20. The issue has to do with the amount of processing power it takes for the camera to set up in auto mode.

What I've done to test this is to start it in manual mode and there is no lag or anything at all.

Unfortunately I prefer to use auto mode so what I do is start in manual mode and then switch to auto then there's no delay. Not at all a good solution but still faster and less troubling than having my phone lock up for 5-10 seconds while it figures out what's going on.

No one else here has seen this?

2 seconds is actually a long time unless you are speaking figuratively

Hate to bring this up from the dead but this is still happening and I can't find a solution for it yet.

It's frustrating enough that I'm finding myself looking at other phones now when I have no other complaints about this device.

Was trying to take pictures today of my son's soccer game and it basically locked up my phone for about 10 seconds while it opened the camera app. Completely unacceptable. I've run the optimization process and I reboot about every week. Never see anyone else with these issues on any phone.
