Camera glass breaks easily?

It does seem suspect, but it is enough to make me wait a week to buy this to see if a good number of them happen.

Remember when the Note 7 first blew up, every one was like, "that is just one or two out of millions, nothing to see here"

Uh-huh. Using the flashlight causes the camera lens to break.

Says some random person on Reddit.

Uh-huh.

We were just as incredulous when the initial burn reports about the Note 7 popped up in Asia. The cracking wasn't just one person this happened to. The flashlight (heat) one though seems absurd, especially why on that long- unless by mistake. The scratch issues are not absurd and more probable.

All it takes is a less tolerant glass mix and too tight of a fit in the camera bezel.

LG would be more likely to do that if this pans out, since not a safety issue. I already ordered mine. Probably should have waited, but wanted to test the signal reception. Note 7 sucked for LTE signal, unless in strong areas. Even wifi struggled and ran warmer than wifi should on a device. Same behavior on both Note 7s I had.

My Note 4 is very good for LTE signal and stays cool with wifi. Just not enough storage space and the low pics are not good. Not as awful as they used to be pre-updates, but still not that good.

Frankly I would take a Note 4.5: 64GB and better camera sensor for low light. I would prefer that over the Note 7 due to signal, curve and sealed battery.

What about Android Authority's drop tests? Don't understand how a flashlight app on the phone could shatter the glass...

I suppose if you left the flashlight on for a prolonged amount of time it could heat up and a difference between the temperature of the light and the ambient temperature could cause it to crack.

The heat issue was an odd one, but others have stated even tiny scratches can trigger it. Probably glass/bezel tension and would also help explain the heat issue. If the reports increase as more get their V20's then it might be an issue. Key word might, since seems peculiar.

Update: The video above and issues reported perfectly fit a materials/compression issue. The glass is probably in the bezel too tight. At least for the device in the video and the reports. The material is also an issue, since would not have the problem- depending on the glass mix and production process.

Stay AWAY from sand! Seriously.

The camera assembly also comes with a protector installed. It has openings for the lenses so I think I'll just leave it installed. No point in peeling it off

Yup....in the video where he scratches the lens he reccomends leaving it installed. I seem to recall that camera lens protectors are available on EBay for some phones. I think they cover the actual camera lens though.

I don't understand why they didn't make a separate lens for each camera. Also now that I think of it, the protector was delibertly installed as an extra later of protection and probably should not be removed. The G5 did not have the protector and also had failures. Mine G5 lens and others failed on its own so I agree that its too tight inside the bezel. The good news is that its an easy replacement and there are videos on how to do it for the G5. LG would have you believe you have to take the phone apart and push out the broken lens from the inside. All you have to do is heat up the broken lens to loosen the adhesive and pry it up with a small sharp tool and then gently pull it up with tweezers.

I'm not worrying about it. If it breaks Lg phones are so easy to work on. You just need to take the back inside panel off and it's right there!

This, or absolutely avoid sand and anything else that can scratch. Beaches and V20 probably won't mix well.

You don't actually have to remove the panel to repair the lens

Other sites parroting or linking to the issue. Seems could become more of a thing when others get theirs. Review units too.

You know they want to find something for attention. The note 7 recall was a cash cow for clicks.

So few cases on the cam lense, I bet more people broke screens from dropping in the short time of v20 release. Once something grabs a little traction.......... The drama starts. Yes I am optimistic, I have to be for my sanity after the few months of drama I had with the N7

The V20 apparently comes with a plastic protector on the lens cover.

I recommend leaving it on just for some protection from scratches.

I remember that some One M9s had the same issue.

More are reporting the cracking issue. Us folks here are a smaller sample. My concern is how the cracking will be treated for warranty- a manufacturing issue, or is the cost on the customer? I have seen enough that the issue is manufacturing and does not take much to crack the glass.

Is LG going to own this, or pass the blame and cost to customers? Warranty deductibles, etc.

In regards to the plastic. I thought people were stating the pictures looked better with it removed? If so, compromise pic quality for LG production issues?

I don't recall LG doing anything for the G5.
I don't see how pictures are better with the protector removed. It doesn't interfere.

If the lens itself is not covered, it should not be an issue. Still silly how something like this could be missed during the "60,000" tests LG has been advertising, post Note 7 recall.
